| 1418933 | 2016-04-11 06:52:00 | Hi..when uploading a file to Google Drive does the Browser have to remain open for the entire uplaod? I was uploading a 3.7GB file and that was 9 hours to complete. I left browser open with Google drive showing 7.5 hours remaining to upload, came home with 1.5 hours remaining for upload, closed browser, reopened it, went to Google drive and now there is no sign of the almost completed upload. Searching Google forums and FAQ's just sends me off into a Thesaurus definition of the word Profound,...Simple Q is...does Google drive have to be left open in browser for upload to complete? ...........and its a bandwidth hog!!!! Thanks |

But you can use Google Drive folder support.google.com Simply install it, and drop the file into the folder. No Browser required. As long as the computer is connected to the internet it will sync and upload. |

| 1418935 | 2016-04-11 13:36:00 | Thanks Wainuitech. I had downloaded/installed Google Drive and couldn't get the file to load to the Google Drive folder so I dropped it into the Google Drive using Browser. When I installed G-Drive what I had was a G-Drive folder and 3 other sub folders on desktop, sub folders were Docs, Sheets and Slides. All that was in the main G-Drive folder were a desktop.ini and a file named "How to get started with Drive". That file I cannit get to open at all:double click it and I get the Open with window and nothing in there opens it. Notepad and MS Office Word simply give me computer language code. So that is why I had dropped the file into G-Drive Browser. Ho-hum....today I will send the file on DVD for a cost of $NZ3.00 airmail to Romania. 9 hour up and download times....hmmmmm. I usually use MediaFire but for the past 2 weeks it had been syncing the file and never completes syncing and also it MFire has been popping up a window saying that it has to close and for me to send a report which I do...have sent at least a 100 reports and uninstalled-reinstalled MediaFire and its still stuffed...I had guessed/opted to leave the browser open to complete the upload and when I had returned home and went to check emails and a couple other things, when done that, I habitually I closed the browser..... anyway, thanks for your reply. | kioti (17360) | ||

| 1418937 | 2016-04-11 13:51:00 | Sorry about the double post. It came about from my trying to edit too late. Here is what I tried to add as the edit: edit: actually, I had gone to drive.google.com and it was in My Drive that I had dropped the file to be uploaded. Question for my future use of G-Drive: is that the Browser method whereny Browser has to remain open for upload/download to complete? Thanks |
