1413325 2015-12-23 16:46:00 My lappie rarely plays up, and if it does it usually can be fixed easily

I noticed a week or so ago that the sound, through the standard lappie speakers, is gone but when you use the headphones, it's there and OK. I only used the sound for Utube recordings for music, mostly light classical. I've tried the standard things like uninstallation of drivers, etc. but no change. Toshiba Satellite i3, 4G Ram, Win10.

Nothing else connected to lappie except mouse (yes, I still use the mouse, can't get used to the touchpad). Will try tonight to d/l and run a Linux distro and see whether it is software or hardware. Anything else I can do?

Thanks

Any flags showing in device manager?

1413327 2015-12-23 20:56:00 I would look in services, see if the audio service is running. AVG isnt on it is it?? A while ago now, an update came out and it killed a file that audio needed Speedy Gonzales (78)
1413328 2015-12-23 21:08:00 Sometimes the sensor get stuck Had this happen on a old Compaq took ages to figure it out til I found this response on another forum:

there is a sensor in the headphone jack that tells the computer to turn the speakers off when there is headphones plugged in, and sometimes that sensor gets jammed and the computer thinks there is headphones plugged in when there isn't.

Solution: Get a tooth pick or something and stick it in there to un-jam the sensor.
