| 587615 | 2007-09-04 01:13:00 | Hi According to FAQ #2 Multibooting this has been covered but only up to XP and not since 2003, so hopefully there has been some changes and new programs available. I have just purchased a new computer with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. If I add a bootable partition can I transfer my old hard drive to it so that I can multiboot to Windows 2000 and my favourite programs. Is there a program that would do this for me, or do I have to reinstall everything manually. Don’t know if I can delete Vista and reinstall after 2000 as described in previous thread, Acer didn’t supply any recovery disk or Vista on CD. I have a USB transfer cable and an external Hard drive enclosure with Acronis true image backup. Thanks |

| 587616 | 2007-09-04 03:32:00 | if you added your 'old' hdd to the new pc and expected it to boot well you could set it to change the boot order from drive 'a' to drive 'b' in the bios or use a boot manager program.......however........your 'old' hdd will have all the drivers etc installed for your 'old' pc and it WONT boot anyway ! unless you are VERY lucky.....what you'd have to do to get it to boot is to run a 'repair install' on it anyway cause it'll almost certainly bluescreen when you try to boot it......i'd be VERY suprised if you got it to goto windows without a repair install.....if/when you manage that you could then either use the bios to change boot order, a boot manager, or modify the boot.ini file in vista...... | drcspy (146) | ||
