| 587582 | 2007-09-03 19:57:00 | Having tidied up my networking issues, or at least allowing Bletch to tidy up the issues (Ta BTW) i still have an issue with amarok, but not with any other music player. I'll start at the beginning. I grabbed the hard drive that was in my old POS, which failed to be a working computer and smelt rather bad, and i have placed it into a completely different computer. i now have an ipaq as my personal POS (no i don't need to be hassled for this, OK) Amarok seems to have a very *ahem* clever way of relating with the machines sound. It monopolises the sound structure so effectively that once the play list is finished, it even locks itself out, and the only way passed this is to close amarok and restart the sound server.:badpc: Control center tells me that the audio device is "Open Sound System". other than that i don't know what clues to offer. |

| 587584 | 2007-09-03 21:32:00 | Hi Jamuz! Personthingy, the solution to that it to tell Amarok to share. Open up the engine preferences (from within Amarok) and set the sound system to ALSA. This should fix it (although note Amarok sometimes needs restarting after a sound change, although usually just restarting playback is sufficient). If it's still greedy, set it to ARTS and let KDE manage the mixing. Edit: If you haven't already done it, install alsa and alsa-utils :D. You can test mixing by running aplay and Amarok at the same time. Edit 2: OSS is history, you shouldn't be using it. Tell KDE to use ALSA too if necessary, although leaving the default is usually fine - KDE will normally try to use ALSA by default if it's installed. Also install the ALSA<->OSS bridge, so that any apps that still want OSS will actually use ALSA as they are supposed to. |
