| 587542 | 2007-09-03 11:25:00 | Ok here the deal. Back in July I got a HL2 and play it for awhile on my PC. And at a certian point the game had serious stutter and lag problems. Eventually it got the the point where my PC would totally lock up and restart. So I uninstalled HL2 and forgot about it. And about 2 days later the same freeze and restart problem happened with my other games. and then started effecting windows, eg: MSN messenger, Photoshop CS2 etc... So I formatted the drive that my OS was on thinking it was a software thing (that drive is a 20gb, my other is 80gb), and then about 3 weeks later the problem happened again while playing Call of Duty single player,a day after from getting back from a friends house and connecting to his LAN. So I again formatted the drive and reinstalled windows, and also bought a new drive (Seagate barracuda 160gb), took out the 20gb, and now have my OS on the 80gb with all my games, music, etc on the 160gb. And so far I haven't had and freezing in-game, yet it froze 3 times this evening while I had my PC's case open, but it didn't restart like normal. But now my 160gb Seagate is making a weird soft grinding noise, and its only 3 days old 0_o. Specs: Windows XP SP2 512Ram AMD Sempron Processor 3000+ 1.79Ghz MOBO:ASUSTeK Computer INC. K8V-VM Rev 1.xx Graphics Card: Nvidia GForce 7600GS Silent Sound Card: CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device Virus Protection: AVG 7.5.484 Version 7.5.484 Cheers -JT PS: Watch out for Demonhunter...Apparently he pwnz:xmouth: |

| 587543 | 2007-09-03 11:32:00 | Welcome to the PressF1 Forums! wats up with the PS comment? Anyway, can i ask you if you are using no-cd cracks for any of those games? These are often the cause of trojans etc getting into your system. also, what AV are you running? is it up-to-date? when did you last do a scan? Download Hijack This (www.spywareinfo.com) and post the log in the forums. Chances are you have some spyware/trojan. as for you harddrive, without actually hearing it myself, can't be too sure. Seagates are not the quietest hdd's in the world. Have you contacted the manufacturer? |

| 587544 | 2007-09-03 12:23:00 | You might want to run a comprehensive scan with Hijack this, Spybot-SD and Trojan Remover and CCleaner if you haven't done so. Then get Avast and run a scan with that. Sounds like it is an infection because its progressively infecting your computer. Its not overheating is it? Check the temp and fan speed. BTW, back your data up NOW if your HDD is making weird noises AND what is up with that PS comment? |
