587423 2007-09-03 09:34:00 After years of begging, my parents finally decided to get an HP. Honestly Brothers used so much ink when they were just cleaning that we had to buy new cartridges every month or so even if we didn't print or wanted to print.

On and the fact that it was huge, noisy and kept cleaning ALL day long!!! And no off switch, just a crappy standby mode:eek:

587424 2007-09-03 10:37:00 And once again, thank you to all the people who advised me to buy an HP... glad I listened to yas :D Myth (110)
587425 2007-09-03 19:02:00 Hewlett packard are not great either. They have their own problems.

HP hit with class-action lawsuit for dead ink cartridges.
HP is getting hit for producing cartridges that can stop working before they're even used. If the class-action suit goes ahead as planned it could represent anyone in the United States that purchased an HP inkjet printer since Feb. 2001. This would probably have International ramifications.

587426 2007-09-03 19:14:00 Dead ink cartridges beats a dead printer anyday :) Myth (110)
587427 2007-09-03 19:20:00 Thats true .

I had an HP Photosmart, it didnt last long .

Even tho everything else worked (the card slots still worked, and the photos were excellent) .

The screen after a year scrambled / brought up garbage and you couldnt read the stupid thing!

HP wanted me to pay to get another one / they did offer to give me another one at $150 or something (even tho this was twice as much at the time) .

BUT, in the end I biffed it .

And with HP printers and other hardware, the software installs too much crap .

And most of it, from what I've read usually crashes a system / causes probs, one way or another .

587428 2007-09-03 20:41:00 Oh man, I could've sworn the MFC-215C was gonna be on that list when I opened this thread, this thing is a piece of junk.

And on the topic of printers, what can cause the first block of whatever you print out to smudge a little? I've cleaned it that many times, and I've checked the alignment as well. The only way to get it to print something that's not blurred is to set the printing settings to the max, colour enhancement etc, but then that takes ages to print. Anyone know? Damn Brothers, I'm thinking it could be the black ink tho (which has been refilled, so that might be it?)

587429 2007-09-03 20:48:00 I'm using the 215-C here. Havent had any probs with it YET.

I wouldnt trust refilled cartridges, even tho they maybe cheaper.

587430 2007-09-03 20:49:00 Owned Canon, HP, Brother and Epson.

In the opposite order.

The last two printers I've had have been Canon, and I'm very happy with them. Far prefer them to any others, with Epson by far being the worst. Could either take or leave Brother and HP, probably prefer an HP. :2cents:

And never EVER use refill cartridges. Fastest way to kill a printer.

587431 2007-09-03 22:34:00 I've got a MFC210C and she runs great, have had it for nearly 3 years now and except for a firmware upgrade I did and a patch to support XP SP2 I've never looked back. I only by genuine brother ink and print a test page once a week to keep the print head in good working order. I have to say I use my Brother Laser for most of my printing, mainly assignments and stuff. I very seldom do colour printing. I do use the scanner and fax regularly on the MFC though.

Cheers
