587178 2007-09-05 08:47:00 Why are you running the 64-bit version of Vista?
I'm running a 7950GX2 just fine on Vista, albeit the 32-bit version :)
Sigh. I think it may be that this person has specs like this.

CPU = Amd Athlon 64 X2 4800 dual core
PSU = 485watt Enermax Noisetaker
RAM = 4G Kingston (4x1G)
Graphics = Nvidia 7950 GX2
MOB = MS-7184
OS = Vista Ultimate Ver 6.0 (64-bit)

The cpu appears to be an Athlon 64 X2.
So please explain to me why this person should not run a 64 bit O/s other than drivers.
In my computer I have AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400.
4 Gigs RAM.
Nvidia 7900. This is not a 7950 GX2.
I do not run Vista as an operating system.
I can, and do, dual boot WinXPPro32 bit with the 64 bit version.

Also I see that there happens to be 4 Gigs of RAM in the case.

Think about that Jan.

?, sweep?.....

OP, latest driver for 64b Vista is 158.18 (www.nvidia.com) for SLI support!

I have to say that SLI support in Vista 64bit isnt the best....!

587180 2007-09-05 10:35:00 Yep, just tried the 158.18 drivers also. Guess what.. still the same :yuck: . Please can anybody help me!. Okay, let's up the ante, Anybody that can solve my problem receives $50 direct credit to their bank account!, (I saw this bounty solution type thing in a post somewhere and thought no harm in trying). And yes I am serious :) Oh and the solution has to be an actual fix thanks. bigtimp (12765)

Hi, OP, can you confirm the graphic card works with XP? I mean, the card is confirm all okay?

Is this a new build, the extra molex connectors are plugged in and the PSU up to the task?

Check out this forum here ( . anandtech . com/messageview . aspx?catid=31&threadid=2087108&highlight_key=y&keyword1=7950GX2" target="_blank">forums . anandtech . com) sounds like you arent the only 1, may have an answer for you!

587182 2007-09-06 00:34:00 Hey, I just checked and that PSU isnt SLI certified! link here (www.enermax.com), it may have 32a on the 12v + rail but thats combined only.......
1) Try not using the PCIe connector and instead use 2 molex from separate rails with the connector that came with the card...or
2) Try another more powerful PSU to rule out power as the issue.

I'm sure sure, but maybe a 64bit O/S draws more power on load than a 32bit O/S as it uses the entire cpu resources....

Isolate and diagnose!

587183 2007-09-06 01:13:00 Oh, also, with your mates 7500LE plugged in use CCleaner to remove ALL drivers for Nvidia excluding chipset drivers of course, shutdown, replace card with your and boot, then try the 158.18 drivers SolMiester (139)
587184 2007-09-06 21:51:00 Hi Solmeister,
Yep the card was running dreamily in XP. Played Oblivion and Doom 3 on the highest settings without any problems whatsoever.
I tried the 7500LE CCleaner solution (cleaned system and registry), still no good. Tried it with 158.18, and all the rest just to make sure. With the 158.18 though it was a little different, instead of BSOD straight away, it stayed black for an extra minute longer than usual, then the screen adjusted (which it never has during this problem before) then BSOD.
I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to fiddling with PC'c, so when I upgraded my PSU to accommodate the 7950 GX2 I didn't realise that the 32a was only achieved by combining both rails (I didn't even really know what rails were) :blush:.
Yes, I made sure to attach all plugs and cables, and you could say its a new build. It used to be a Compaq Presario SR1660AN;

CPU = AMD 64 3200+
RAM = 512MB
Hard Drive = Samsung 200GB SATA
Optical = HP DVD writer (LightScribe)
GPU = MSI Nvidia GeForce 6600 256MB
OS = XP

But I've ripped out and replaced everything, except the HP DVD writer (I added another a Samsung DVD Writer also), and I left the Hard Drive there too.
So the problem may be with the PSU, because my 7950 GX2 is an OEM version and didn't come with any other cables, just the card in an anti static bag. So I've been using the PCI-E connector which has probably been underpowering it you think?. So to test if it is the PSU I've sourced a molex to pcie adapter (pretty hard to come by) but it wont arrive until Monday-Tuesday.
Oh and is it normal to see the windows boot manager every time I start up?

587185 2007-09-06 22:55:00 Hi bigtimp, did you say you have upgraded the PSU?, what was it running on before, do you still have that?, can you remove power for all devices minus HD, graphics and boot with the old PSU?....The 7950GX2 in known to be a power monster, the fact that the system runs fine on the 7500LE with the same driver does suggest either a card failure or power issue. The trouble with PCIe connectors is you dont know if the connection comes from the combined 2 rails or just 1 18a rail, which could be the reason for the issue.

The boot screen manager AFAIK should be seen, some manufactures have there on logo come up instead on the hardware list and boot manager, this is not an issue.
