587836 2007-09-04 09:06:00 Im looking at getting an FX 5200 based grafix card (PCI) to play avi to tv.
One I am looking at is an XFX brand. Are they any good for what I'm wanting?
Not wanting top of the line here, but also want something that won't crap out after 13 months

Also, apparently a 128MB FX5200 card will play to tv at 1024x768. For a monitor, this is reasonable, but is it any good for a tv? Should I maybe be looking at a 256MB card?

587837 2007-09-04 09:13:00 My first Media Center had a FX5200 128Mb Card and that played fine on the TV.

Rember though the screen resolution /pixels will be different on the TV compared to a Normal monitor. The current Media Center has a far better card, but when playing from the PC the 32" wide screen auto adjusts to suit on startup.

Standard def PAL tv is about 720x576, so a 128MB card should easily be able to output that.

If you've got an HD tv, then you'll need a much faster PC & video card.

587839 2007-09-04 21:57:00 I have an XFX MX4000 in my media PC, it plays fine on my TV via svideo out, but gets a little jittery on the 42" plasma via PC analogue out, yet it plays fine on a PC screen at the same resolution as the Plasma (1024x768)...

As for XFX as a brand, they are great, also known as Pine.
