| 587486 | 2007-09-03 09:15:00 | Hi, I have somehow lost the power cable for my USB 3.5" hard drive enclosure. I am wondering what the cable is called, so that I can request it when I go to jaycar/dse etc. I think its the standard type cable for these sorts of things and looks like a PS/2 or SVideo cable. Also, given that enclosures are cheap is it worth buying one or just getting a whole new enclosure? |

| 587487 | 2007-09-03 09:19:00 | I had a similar situation earlier this year - in my case my adaptor had malfunctioned. I wound up buying the replacement adaptor off Trademe for $19. | 587488 | 2007-09-03 21:48:00 | Presumabley by "power cable" you refer to the in-line brick that convets 23ov to +5 and +12v (and the cable that comes from it)? I have seen variations, there are no "standards", only those used by each enclosure maker. So I doubt you will easily get the right one as a spare? |

| 587492 | 2007-09-09 02:32:00 | If it's the sort I'm thinking of, it's not a PS/2 or S-video connector. It's a 5-pin minidin connector, rather than a 6-pin or 4-pin one . South Island Components (sicom.co.nz/) had the connectors last time I needed one. The supply is probably +12V, +5V. (I had the supply, and wanted to use the USB box). |

| 587493 | 2007-09-09 12:44:00 | Whatever you do, don't go looking for a power brick that fits and plug it in! Most USB hard drive enclosures use proprietory power connectors that vary between manufacturers, but may use the same plug. However, there is no guarantee that the pin configuration is the same. Your best bet is to buy another enclosure, which should be around $50 shipped. If you mean the power cable that plugs into the power brick, it might be the very common 3-pin laptop type, which are around $10 from Trade Me (shipped). |

| 587494 | 2007-09-09 21:52:00 | I don't know how you could loose the DC side power cable, they are usually pretty well attached to the power supply, unless you did loose the whole thing in which case a new enclosure would probably be easier (and no doubt not much more expensive in fact probably cheaper than trying to find a replacement) Either way, if you've got some more info such as make and model of the enclosure, it might help at least in identifying the cable you're talking about |
