587168 2007-09-02 21:59:00 Hello, I just recently upgraded my OS from XP to Vista Ultimate 64-bit . Whilst trying to do a clean install,I kept getting BSOD's, so I installed a friends 7950LE and tried to install Vista again - SUCCESS! :) . Vista installed okay, and automatically downloaded and Installed updates . But when I put my card 7950 GX2 back in, BSOD trouble again!!! :mad: . The only way around this is to boot into safe mode, and disable the 7950 GX2 and restart, which sucks because I have very limited graphics capability with my graphics cards disabled . To further frustrate me, now I see Windows Update has an important update for the 7950 GX2, that wont install . The blue screen errors blame the "nvlddmkm . sys" saying that it has stopped responding . Vista says its the Nvidia driver and suggest I update to the latest drivers which I have tried . I've tried almost every driver there is, and as soon as the 7950 GX2 installs . . . BSOD!!!! :badpc: . Plaese can anyone Help me, My system is;

CPU = Amd Athlon 64 X2 4800 dual core
PSU = 485watt Enermax Noisetaker
RAM = 4G Kingston (4x1G)
Graphics = Nvidia 7950 GX2
MOB = MS-7184
OS = Vista Ultimate Ver 6 . 0 (64-bit)

587170 2007-09-04 22:22:00 Yep, I have tried Google . That's how I figured out how to fully install Vista in the first place . I've searched high and low, but haven't found a solution to getting my 7950 GX2 to install into vista without the BSOD . Well I've just about read every post and thread on the web now, and I'm just about to give up . 7950 GX2 they say, 1GB of RAM they say, 2GPUs' on one card they say, but they don't say how to get the blasted thing to work with vista do they . I'm not a very patient man, and don't think I'll wait for a solution to pop up . Any body want to buy a 7950 GX2? just don't try it with vista :D . I think I'll get me an ATI, stuff Nvidia:yuck: . bigtimp (12765)
587171 2007-09-04 22:54:00 Why are you running the 64-bit version of Vista?
I'm running a 7950GX2 just fine on Vista, albeit the 32-bit version :)

What version of the drivers are you using?

Are you able to boot into Vista and install the latest drivers and try that?

We can't really help you unless you tell us what it is that you have tried .

BTW there is nothing wrong with nVidia . . .

Why are you running the 64-bit version of Vista?
I'm running a 7950GX2 just fine on Vista, albeit the 32-bit version :) He has 4GB of system RAM and 32bit will only show 3 . 25GB . :p

587174 2007-09-04 23:28:00 Isnt the 7950GX2 an SLI card?, i dont think 64b Vista supports that yet!

Edit - doest Vista Ultimate incl 32b version?, re-install using the 32bit version unless you are running more than 3Gb RAM

587175 2007-09-05 05:31:00 Hi again:D , Well I've since wiped out a couple of the the previous drivers that I've tried and can't remember what they were . But I do know that I have tried the latest driver 163 . 44 (Beta), the latest official driver 162 . 22, and a couple of oldies for good measure 96 . 86, 97 . 46, and I also tried 100 . 65 because I read in a couple of posts that It seemed stable, but of course It didn't work .
To clarify, I have got Vista running, but I have to disable my 7950 GX2 which means very limited functionality of the entire system .
I install the drivers okay, but when my card is installed and system restarted BSOD .
Oh and does this mean anything, When I had my friends 7500LE in, Vista showed that I had 3 . 78GB:thumbs: of ram . Now with the 7950 GX2 it's only showing 2 . 68GB:waughh: .
Hopefully this helps somebody solve my problem . And yes I am keen on selling It if a solution doesn't arise soon, send me a message with an offer my impatience may get the better of me .

587177 2007-09-05 07:52:00 Yep, I just tried that. Took 2GB out (2x1GB), and tried it, still the same, Funny thing is Vista shows me as having 1.93GB now, go figure. bigtimp (12765)
