588295 2007-09-05 08:42:00 G'day all. I have a strange(hardware?) problem. I have an NEC versa notebook running xp. For a while now, when I shut the lid it emits a high pitched squeal and the cats all run out meowing. I have worked out that it comes from the left speaker holes. If I put my finger over the holes it lets out the same noise. Anyone got any ideas? joemac (9739)
588296 2007-09-05 08:45:00 is there a speaker Build into the Laptops Monitor?

Edit - That Made No Sense At All!

i Meant - Is There a Mic In The Laptops Monitor? This happens if i set down one of my headsets and the mic meets the headsetes speakers..

588297 2007-09-05 08:48:00 no, they're either side of the keyboard. It's only the left one with a problem. joemac (9739)
588298 2007-09-05 08:50:00 I made a modification to my post sorry. Read it again Please ThaNewb (12784)
588299 2007-09-05 08:53:00 no, but the mic is about two inches from the offending speaker. I will turn it off and try. joemac (9739)
588300 2007-09-05 08:55:00 Ha! that fixed it. Why would it be getting feedback? joemac (9739)
588301 2007-09-05 09:01:00 The mic volume/pickup could be set to loud, when the lid is closed and the mic gets closer to closing sound waves bounce around, through the speakers, which the Mic picks up- though the speakers >>>>>> and around and around.

While reading your original post and I saw [when I shut the lid it emits a high pitched squeal] the first funny thing i thought of was get the cats tail out of the hinge :D

588303 2007-09-05 09:06:00 Sorry in advance but I could not resist.

I have a high pitched squeal as well, but not from the computer. It comes from over the fence !!!!!! PJ:D
