Within the last week or 2 the amount of spam that appears when I open mailwasher has increased dramatically (not that this appears unusual after reading several other posts). I dutifully go through and blacklist the crap as usual and continue on. The email account is an XTRA one.

However, the concern I have is that lately I have been getting a lot of spam from people with different names, BUT, my email address is appearing as the person who sent it?

Is this a sign of being hijacked by a spambot or something else?
Given the new law change I certainly don't want my good name sullied ;)

Virus and malware and HJT scans show nothing unusual on my system.

Any ideas?

Cheers

587943 2007-09-05 01:15:00 I've got a customer with the Exact same problem. The Computers have been checked and no known spyware or viruses are present.

They are with Xtra and most of it appears to tracked back to them, yet the Machines are clean, and they are not sending out this junk. In fact some of it was meant to be sent from their PC at 3 am, when the business was shut for the night and PCs off.

Extra claim they have spyware on the Machine - BULL SH*T:p

Strange it has only started since xtra / bubble appeared on the scene.:groan:

I'm experiencing an increase in spam emails, too. I'm getting about 10 each day as compared to about 2 each week before the silly BUBBLE.

I really fail to understand what Telecom's top management is doing other than receiving FAT pay packets each month. Looks like they have nothing better to do other than experimenting some crazy things like the GO LARGE & BUBBLE, for example. :groan:

587946 2007-09-05 01:58:00 Is there any evidence that others are getting email with the same falsified send address or is it just customised for the individuals?

Any spam I've been getting since bubble is from various .com addresses + 1 .za

587947 2007-09-05 03:15:00 I would not surprise me if Xtra's servers were now just one big spambot, they have been messing about with their system so much recently I suspect that all kinds of malware has infected their entire setup. If I were with Xtra I would be dumping then as fast as I could. JackStraw (6573)
587948 2007-09-05 04:28:00 I have my own domain name and am unlucky if I get spammed twice a week.
Only way to go and make sure your e-mail address does not get circulated or easy to guess

If I didn't get spam I would barely get any emails at all;)

For Important stuff I have a special email address which is relatively spam free.
I am just a little concerned about my xtra address which is implying that the spam is coming from me......which I can assure you, it is not ;)

Hopefully things get better, otherwise I may have to look at getting another email address

cheers

587950 2007-09-05 09:28:00 Well you wouldn't be the first to leave xtra email and all their mess.

This new "improved":xmouth: :yuck: And I try not to laugh when I say that, is right up there with the biggest balls up they have made.
