588573 2007-11-24 06:22:00 Thanks Wainui. I pulled the CMOS battery, no change. Changed the boot order, no change. The link to that forum sounds a bit like what I've got, but is either a bit beyond me, or I need it in simple english!
Since pulling the battery, it goes to
Detecting Array
Press F10 to enter RAID setup Utility
every time, then gives the Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter. message.

588574 2007-11-24 06:45:00 Okay - doing from our friends PC - not my place:D

Is the keyboard working as in the arrow keys ? If not can you get hold of a connector or PS2 keyboard and see if that works - If it does we can run restore back to yesterday but it needs to be able to get into command Prompt. or last known good configeration.

588575 2007-11-24 06:52:00 Since pulling the CMOS battery and putting it back, the BIOS does not show any HD, when I use auto detect HD it doesn't find it. I cant even reset the date and time in the Bios now.
I got the PC to boot off the Windows XP (home) CD, it loads some drivers and when I choose repair installation it brings up the following message
Windows XP Home Edition Setup.
Set up did not find any hard disk installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
Set up cannot continue. To quit setup press F3
The HD has power, etc. It was showing in the BIOS until pulling the battery.
Where to now?

588576 2007-11-24 06:55:00 Set up did not find any hard disk installed in your computer.

This would be coz you did this:

I then went into Integrated Peripherals and changed "IDE/SATA RAID Function from [Disabled] to [Enabled] <- You enabled it.

The setup will say that if the above is enabled and you dont have SATA drivers.

If its enabled it needs the SATA drivers. Disable it

Then try again.

588577 2007-11-24 06:56:00 THe arrow keys work in BIOS, but not when trying to select options on the screen that has the options of safe mode, last known good configuration, etc.
I have another keyboard (USB also) that I can plug in. However the screen seems to be going to the Raid configuration (array) scren now, rather than the other options.
Hey, don't worry about it tonight (especially when you're out). I need some tea anyway.
Many thanks,
Graham.

588578 2007-11-24 07:27:00 Okay. I don't know why, or how, but somethings happening! I tried another USB keyboad (with a PS2 converter) and restarted several times. The first couple of times it was as before, but then I got the options screen, and could move to the last known good configuration. It has actually restarted.
Email is not working, but hey, I've got a normal screen!
Will call it quits tonight and see if it restarts tomorrow.
Graham.

588579 2007-11-24 10:15:00 Very quick responce - scuse if its a bit muddled - been on the :waughh: LOL

The reason USB wont detect is the BIOS has been reset - it needs to pick up the software USB Again - hence the PS2 normally will detect. let us know how it goes tomorrow.

Drinks calling :D >>>>TOmmorrow>>>:yuck:

588580 2007-11-24 10:49:00 You deserve it Wainui! I must admit I had one after things seemed to be coming right!
I have now reconnected the original Saitek KB and it is still starting and running okay, and now have email back. The KB powers off with the PC too.
The system seems to be taking a while to load at the Windows Flag screen, and a bar races across the bottom of a new screen (like the scan disk bar on my old ME PC), but it's going again which is great.:badpc:
And to think my wife thought I was crazy when I bought a second PC as a back up - where would we be without one to email on in times of trouble?!Many thanks for all your investigation and time. And also Speedy. Great to have people like you out there.
And as my long held theory that whatever the problem, and whenever you start, you'll probably finish around 1 to 2am is once again coming true, I'm off to bed..................
