| 588672 | 2007-09-09 01:56:00 | It all depends on the codecs, not the player (unless player comes bundled with all codecs) But straight off a clean install of XP, WMP cannot even play a DVD. it tells you that you must get a codec and then shows you a link to microsoft.com where you can buy some (why you'd do that, I don't know) |

Any way WMP 11 is fine, I've never had any real problems with it, as for DRM - lets say I have had no problems. One thing I find a lot, is people moan like hell about a product being rubbish, yet they don't have the thoughts to look at the settings and change them, they usually use defaults- well durrrr. For example when they rip a music CD its copy right protected - in the settings you can disable that. Not that I encourage pirating music, but the option is there. One thing I was annoyed with is it wouldn't play some formats, installed the K-Lite Codec (www.free-codecs.com) Pack and now it seems to play every thing. About the only item I find annoying is it wont allow you to change the aspect ratio:annoyed: But in those cases I then use either VLC Player (www.videolan.org) or ViPlayer (www.urusoft.net) which also has many setting that can be changed. |
