588695 2007-09-06 23:29:00 I know its not the network card. Thanks 4 the suggestions. stormdragon (6013)
588696 2007-09-06 23:35:00 Make sure simple file sharing is ticked, you dont have to go near local policies whatever it is.

Make sure a firewall isnt blocking things. And make sure ALL workgroup names are the same.

And if you have more than 2 PC's you need a hub, if you're using Ethernet.

588697 2007-09-06 23:39:00 Hi Speedy

File sharing is enabled in both windows and firewall.

The computers are all linked via a netgear router.

588698 2007-09-06 23:46:00 Whats the firewall?? Is it XP's or another firewall?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
588699 2007-09-06 23:48:00 Tried it with XP, Nortons and with absolutely no firewall enabled just 2 see if that was the problem. stormdragon (6013)
588700 2007-09-06 23:54:00 If Nortons Internet Security (if this is what you're using), is still installed, I would uninstall it.

You didnt have both running tho did u (Nortons and XP's) at the same time?

588701 2007-09-06 23:57:00 No disabled one enabled the other.
Its not the firewall as all 3 computers have norton (not my choice) and it is configured the same on each.

588702 2007-09-07 00:12:00 Can anybody got any clue how 2 change the policy as i originally mentioned in the first post? I'm reasonable sure that its the cause. stormdragon (6013)
588703 2007-09-07 01:17:00 I'm pretty sure the policy has nothing to do with it, there is something else stopping the sharing.
Simple file sharing like you want does not require that policy to be included.

Speedy suggested uninstalling Nortons, - I fully agree, just turning it off wont do any good. I personally have seen MANY network problems with Nortons, and removing it is the only way to stop Nortons from doing its blocking.
Having Nortons Is hopeless, it causes more problems than it stops.Remove it.

What I would also do is download the Antispyware programs from Speedys Sig, run those, as spyware can also do funny things to a network.

If you can Ping, then the signall is getting through. One thing you may want to try if none of the above work is give the XP Pro PC a static IP instead of the router issueing it, I have had that problem before.
