I have a Dell laptop, and am thoroughly impressed by it. Cost me $2500 at the start of this year - is solidly built and runs very quietly. The batteries I got for it (the 85WHr ones) give me between 5-7hrs on a single charge, which is brilliant for when I'm away from the office. rogerp: I think you'll find that Dell actually does most of their assembly in-house. They go to cheap countries and build and run their own factories, which manufacture according to their processes and standards. There's an interesting case study floating around which discusses Dell's amazing inventory management and production processes - they're taking Frederick Taylor's scientific management theories to an absolute extreme. For those people worried about battery explosions, think about it this way - there are less than 50 cases worldwide, out of the millions of batteries sold by Dell (and recalled) which have worked fine. Those who are recommending Toshiba and Lenovo (IBM), they've both recalled the same Sony-made cells as Dell too. |
