588331 2007-09-05 20:31:00 Hi! I don't know is this the right place to ask this, but still... I have radeon 9800 graphic card and I'm thinking to buy new. Cos' I'm so nuub, I don't know very much these compatibility questions. I'm thinking to buy nvidia geforce 8600 GTS, but what is the best choice for Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA. (I meaned Club3d's, sapphires', asus's.... geforce 8600 GTS) If somebody knows better choice for my motherboard so tell me, if you want :) . (I don't mean geforce 8800 ULTRA)

Sry. My bad english, but I hope you unterstand.

Almost any generation of the past 2 years will be a big big improvement over your 9800!.

I guess the 1st question is what resolution is your monitor capable of?. Is is a LCD or CRT.

If DX10 is a reason for the upgrade, then only a 8800GTS or better is likely to cut the mustard. On the ATI side they have a new card coming out that while has 1/2 the bandwidth of the 2900XT, it does have higher RAM speeds and core speeds. I think its the pro version and should be a good contender against the 8600GTS.

588333 2007-09-05 22:02:00 If your upgrading your video card and motherboard at the same time that motherboard is a waste of time! There are better options, but all really depends on your budget. How much are you willing to spend on the motherboard? Are you getting a new CPU? What sort of harddrive do you have? PSU? Pete O'Neil (6584)
588334 2007-09-06 13:16:00 I have Intel Pentium D processor 925 (3 GHz) and I use CRT now, but next monitor what I buy is LCD. Not yet but in the future (in 2-4 year). (I don't know the size of it, but that I can say. It's 32 inch or bigger)
Pete did you mean power supply unit?
And I don't buy new CPU or Motherboard. I just bought that :'(, I didn't know that 4x speed think ****.

Don't see the relevance.
He can run whatever card he settles on at any resolution he likes.

The question is what i the use for the card?

Gaming? Buy 8800GTS or better.
Not Gaming? Then the 8600 will be fine.

Native Resolutions is the relevance!, 17" LCD, means 1280x1024, meaning he will not required a GTX!. and will only need a 320Mb GTS as he wont need extra MB for textures!

I think he's already got the Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA, and wants to know what cards are compatible with it

www.asrock.com

The VGA support list only seems to show that some newer Radeon cards require a BIOS update possibly.
