589774 2007-09-10 07:04:00 Knowing the budget would be a big help, no point in suggesting a graphic card that's close to $1000 if the budget allows $400.

Also what do you want to do ? No point in suggesting high end components if all you require is bit more speed etc>

589776 2007-09-10 08:09:00 You can get an Asus 8800GTS for $500. I think you'd suffice with 1GB RAM, but if you need to 1GB RAMs are fairly cheap these days and would cost you up to $100 depending on what kind of RAM your motherboard takes. qazwsxokmijn (102)

589779 2007-09-10 09:38:00 The Core2 Duo by far. You could get a Quad Core for pretty cheap actually if you wanted/your budget allowed. beeswax34 (63)
589780 2007-09-11 07:09:00 Check out www.pricespy.co.nz for prices on these items listed below.

To play games to the max these cards are really good, starting from cheapest to expensive going by pricespy prices.

Geforce 8800 GTS, 320MB, PCI Express
Geforce 8800 GTS, 640MB, PCI Express
ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT 512MB, PCI Express

ram:
2gb for gaming helps heaps for load times, faster gaming-no slow downs, glitch's etc.,faster pc in general day to day tasks as well.

sound card:
These sound cards are made by Creative and are very good for gaming, movies, music.

Starting from the cheapest card I would buy to the most expensive card.

X-Fi Xtream Music Sound Card.

This sound card below can be found with two different names but it is the same card!

X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series Sound Card/
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS.

In order of things I would buy:
1. Graphics card
2. Ram
3. Sound Card

If it was me I would get the 8800GTS 640mb graphic card first, play on that etc.,save up get another 1 gig of ram so I would have 2 gigs of ram,and get the X-Fi XtreamGamer Fatal1ty Pro/FPS Series sound card.:D

The reason I would get the 8800GTS 640mb card is if you got a bigger lcd now/later,for higher resolution gaming, and for graphic intense games now or in the future.

Or if you could not wait a bit then the 8800GTS 320mb,Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtream Music sound card and 1 more gig of ram.

Hope this helps.

589782 2007-09-12 11:39:00 If you are even thinking about running Vista, you will definatly need teh 2 GB of ram ae.
1gb just isn't enough.
