589508 2007-09-09 07:07:00 A friend's got a home network setup which is comprised of Senao Wireless bridge connecting to wireless gasp internet, which comes into a linksys WR54GC and is then distributed to 2 computers from the ethernet side and then to an unmanaged ethernet switch which connects 2 more computers. IP address are obtained from the linksys via dhcp.

He wants to add wireless LAN at one end, to allow PCs to connect to existing network, and it also needs ethernet too. so I thought something from here (www.pricespy.co.nz) should do.

Then I looked at the specs and found they have a seperate ethernet port for a broadband modem, just like the linksys. Would it still work just to ignore its own internet port and work as a DHCP relay from the linksys to supply internet, lan, and IP addresses?

How I got mine setup in the workshop so I can get wireless further down the yard is Telstra Modem>4 port Router>8 port switch in the workshop>This (www.zcom.co.nz)
Attached to the switch = works fine. It has its own default IP of 192.168.1.2

Is this the sort of thing you were wanting?

589510 2007-09-09 10:02:00 Sort of. It has to have ethernet ports as well not only to connect to the other switch but also for PCs that aren't connecting wirelessly Agent_24 (57)
589511 2007-09-09 10:21:00 Cant you then just have a switch 4 or 8 port switch with the wireless access point connected into it, like I mentioned above.

In the workshop thats how its setup, 4 port router inside, 2 to PC's, 1 to another 4 port switch in the lounge, and 1 to the 8 port switch in the workshop, with 1 port to the access point, and then the other 6 (1 port in remember) then having ethernet leads to various PC's. / workstations.

In fact just today I installed another 4 port switch from the 8, and relocated 2 servers to a different part of the workshop.

The only other way I can think of is to install a second router, and change its default IP address, then configure the wireless. I don't know if that would work, never tried it. But according to This article (www.dslreports.com) it should work.

In other words it would go Router>Switch>router with wireless

main router IP 192.168.1.1 Second routers IP 192.168.2 ( example)

589512 2007-09-09 10:38:00 Update to above- just plugged in another router directly into the PC, logged in with 192.168.1.1, changed its IP to 192.168.1.3. Connected it to the switch, typed in the new address in the browser - opened the other routers settings, every thing there, so it should enable the wireless.

Didn't try as I 'm getting told off by the other half to get off here LOL- I'mmmm in trouble again:help:
