You can connect your modem directly to a wireless router as long as both have the right matching ports. Ethernet usually gives a better connection than USB though. A combo modem/router is more tidy and less power points / wires required. Most adsl( assuming its adsl) wireless routers are combos any way, you can get a wireless router, but the price difference is not usually that much more for a combo. |

Shops these days offer quite a few routers, as well as modem/routers. One should just double check. As an idea, a non D-Link router will cost approx $120, while an ADSL modem/router is nearer $200 for a non D-Link. D-Link are seen as bottom of the range. If you can afford it, buy either Netgear or Belkin, or maybe even Linksys |

| 589576 | 2007-09-09 20:39:00 | Shop around for good prices. Some places sell the same item for quite a bit less. Personally I'd stay away from D-link, I've seen many fail or give problems. I actually use TP-Link - Yes they are cheap, but its lasted the longest so far out of all the ones I have tried, 2 years now with no problems at all, where as D-links I went through 3 in 6 months due to failures. Just looking at some of the prices and makes from my vendors the difference between a straight router or adsl modem + router is in the range of $30-$50 |
