589469 2007-09-09 05:41:00 Has any one set up a new Hotmail account and tried to use it with MS Outlook or Outlook Express. I get:

Tash Hotmail: Folder: Inbox Downloading all items.' reported error (ox800CCCF6) : 'The server responded 'Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at join.msn.com

589470 2007-09-09 05:48:00 I have just set up Outlook Express a few minutes ago with my 'old' hotmail addy that I've had for years. No problem.

I have heard that if you get a new hotmail account it won't work thru OE unless you subscribe.

589471 2007-09-09 05:51:00 Exactly - Subscribe to what? The address I've had for years works fine. JaceKiwi (2561)
589472 2007-09-09 05:52:00 As the message says Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook express now requires a subscription

So you now have to pay to access your hotmail account via Outlook and Outlook express. (Unless you have an very old hotmail account & then there is a chance that you can access it via Outlook and Outlook express.)

Sorry about that :o

589473 2007-09-09 05:55:00 well, if you're using an old hotmail address it should work. I just entered my e-mail addy/password in the OE set-up and it was straightforward... same as all the other times I've re-installed Windows Shortcircuit (1666)
589474 2007-09-09 05:56:00 Yep- I've had my hotmail address for a lonnnnng time (maybe 10 years?) Shortcircuit (1666)
589475 2007-09-09 06:00:00 my hotmail acct is about seven years old and it works fine with OE drcspy (146)
589476 2007-09-09 12:35:00 Thats fairly old knowledge
Most hotmail accounts more than 3 years old can still get pop3 access, but none since then without upgrading to a "premium hotmail account"

Microsoft announced on September 27, 2004 that they were making it a subscription-only service for new users immediately and existing users from April 2005. However, some (not all) existing users are still able to access their Hotmail accounts via this protocol for free as of April 2007

How so you use POP3 access: All mine are HTTP (the old one works fine on HTTP)

You cant; hotmail does not support POP3 access as far as I am aware.
