| 589144 | 2007-09-08 03:33:00 | After using my Saitek Joystick on FlightSims for many years, I have just replaced my old "box" with a new updated system - but still using XP. Everything is OK but it won't recognise the Joystick. Error report when I remove it from the USB Port states that an unidentifiable unit has malfunctioned. The Joystick is OK and still works on my old system. Has no drivers and is "plug and play" as far as I recall. Device Manager in Windows was not helpful. Any suggestions....? |

| 589146 | 2007-09-08 03:45:00 | Thats usually a driver Issue, May be it should be Plug and Pray :D Any way try the Saitek driver download (www.saitek.com) page, see if your model is listed in the products and download any drivers that may be there - you never know. If its not showing in device manager them it ususally requires some sort of driver to work. |

| 589147 | 2007-09-08 04:21:00 | Thanks for the quick replies.... I am on SP2 I tried the Saitek drivers page but my model is not represented there - probably too old. They indicate in the preamble that many are covered by the plug and pray situation and I'm pretty sure mine is in that category. Not sure what you mean by USB 2 ? |

USB 1.0 has a max of 1.5 Mbps USB 1.1 has a max of 12 Mbps USB 2 has a max of 480 Mbps See Here (www.siliconimaging.com) for a better explanation. While most USB 1 Devices will work on USB 2 sometimes they wont. Just in case - have you tried plugging in another USB device to the port you are trying to attach the Joystick to, just to check that the port is working OK. Also what model of joystick do you have ? |

| 589149 | 2007-09-08 05:09:00 | The model is Saitek X8-33GU - as I say, an older model but one that has performed flawlessly, and still is......just not on the new gear. I have tried several ports. The ones on this box are High Speed ports, I have also tried it in a USB Dock that isn't, neither works. My new Video Card is a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS. Unit is an AMD Athlon Dual Core 4200. |

| 589150 | 2007-09-08 07:12:00 | Been doing lots of searching for this Joystick, found plenty in German ( i think), but I can't read or speak it.:waughh: As long as all windows updates have been installed about the only other thing I can think of is go into the "Control Panel /Add Hardware" & see if it will detect that way. Does other USB devices detect when plugged in ? |

| 589152 | 2007-09-09 00:50:00 | Thanks guys, think I may have to give this one away - for the moment at least. Found the one page manual that came with it and the installation instructions are unusually clear. It states that there are no drivers and that it should be "picked up" by Windows. It needs to be "added on" thru Game Controllers and Device Manager but is rejected before I can get to an installation Wizard. It was brought out for Windows 98 so is getting pretty old, however it was running on XP on a 6 year old set-up. I may have to bite the bullet and invest in something newer. Have tried all the 8 ports available, other devices are working OK, and the stick also works on my old gear on the Game Port - this new machine doesn't have one. | bazmeister (3216) | ||
