I want to add another gig. you guys reckon i should get the same pair again or sell this pair for $100 as i got it for $160. and get 2 gb memory of faster speed. ?.

590436 2007-09-12 11:35:00 Depends on what your motherboard can handle.
If your motherboard can handle 667, 800+ then go for it.
If your mobo can't - then there is no point as the RAM wont' be able to run faster.
If your motherboard can handle it, then i would advise you to sell your current ram and buy the 2 faster chips and install them.

590437 2007-09-12 20:25:00 Mine can handle upto 667. is it worth jumping to 667?
u think anyone would buy my old pair for $100

590438 2007-09-12 20:55:00 The performance increase would be rather minimal and do not think it would be worth the cost.
533 is still reasonably ok RAM and should be fine.
If you were looking at upgrading to 800+ then it would be worthwhile looking into.

590439 2007-09-13 21:33:00 Hi
Looked up few sites and same geil dual channel kit is either out of stock or too expensive.
so i was thinking of this legend memory, because it is the only one one which does pc2-4300 in 533mhz.
so i was to put 2 of these
DDR2 1GB PC2-4300 L-DATA
1GB, DDR2 533MHZ, CL4, DIMM 240-pin
c1com.co.nz
in the spare channel i have left.

How is Legend memory btw?. anyone used it?.
and will the above memory config match with the existing pair?.
thanks!

590440 2007-09-13 21:52:00 I have Legend RAM, there is nothing wrong with it IME, I have been running it for almost two years overclocked to DDR500 with the timings of 2.5-3-3-7 which is tighter than stock! The_End_Of_Reality (334)

I've used Legend memory with Hynix Chips - does the trick and had no problems with yet. Guess its not the best, but on a budget its vey attractive.

Can't answer your config. match off the top of my head, but I had dual channel, 2 sticks, added another stick lost dual channel & added 1 more stick lately so now have dual channel & the system performance has approved noticeabably. But to your answer your ? I just googled for info to make sure new ram I picked would work in dual mode.

590442 2007-09-14 01:34:00 i have four ram slots (2 channels). do we need all four ram sticks of same speed & frequency & latency to work as dual channel?. or can 1 channel be of greater speed? gum digger (6100)
590443 2007-09-14 04:14:00 Sell your original memory and replace it with a 2gb dual channel kit. It just keeps things simpler.

Cheaper brands such as Adata or Legend are fine, other wise brands such as Corsair and Kingston offer 2gb of entry level performance memory for around the $190 mark.

590444 2007-09-27 00:07:00 the pc2 4300 and 533 mhz are very hard to find. what if i put PC2 5300 and 667 mhz?. i know that it will run at pc2-4300 and 533 mhz becuase my old sticks in the first channel run at pc2-4300 533mhz. but will it slow my speed down if both channels specs dont match?. gum digger (6100)
