590165 2007-09-11 05:02:00 I have a laptop that make the appropriate noise (ding-dong) when you insert something like a USB flash drive but then nothing else happens. When I go to device manager the device is sitting there under 'Other devices' and I need to right click on the device and select 'Update Driver' (then follow my nose) to get the device to install. Any ideas how I can make this XP behave?

Thanks

590166 2007-09-11 05:05:00 Repair-reinstall usuaully fixes that. On an lighter note though, try inserting your Xp disk and in the run box type sfc /scannow

note the _space_ between the c and /. Not sure if that will work though.

590170 2007-09-11 23:49:00 Had some USB devices or CD's not open and had to go in via "My Computer" to access the contents. Makes all the right noises but no go. wainuitech (129)
