590740 2007-09-13 05:44:00 Ok, I have a (telecom supplied) D-Link G604t (Gen II) which is wireless.

Does this mean, it's wi-fi enabled? Just thinking (I don't use wireless, my laptop is right next to the router) for my upcoming (hopefully) iPod Touch, can I connect it's wi-fi to my modem if setup? Or am I missing something completely.

I guess wi-fi around the house would be kinda cool.

590741 2007-09-13 05:47:00 Yes it is wi-fi which will give you a personnel wireless network in your home.
Not to be confused with wimax.
The new ipod should connect to it no worries.

590742 2007-09-13 05:57:00 So...what troubles will I be put through setting it up? I could never get it to work with a wireless laptop card (now wayyy outdated) I tried a while ago.

And on the subject, will using Wi-Fi on the Touch use up my monthly usage? I assume it will, but is there anything on it that would use more than doing the same thing on the laptop?

Do you mean the router &/or the laptop/ipod?

No, using Wi-Fi will not use up your monthly bandwidth usage, e.g. if you use it to move music from your laptop to the ipod etc…,

But if you access the internet with either the ipod or laptop then Yes you will use your monthly bandwidth usage, But if you just use wifi for use local stuff like moving music etc.. Around like back & forward from the ipod then no it won’t.

I Hope this helps :)

590744 2007-09-13 14:24:00 Well in the end, it really depends on what you mean trouble is. The first time I bought a wireless router and tried to use, I had to spend an hour on the phone with linksys support due to a IP address conflict.

But since then, there has never been an issue and it works fine with any piece of equipment I can throw at it or when my friends come over. Most of the time, setting up a router and configuring PC's and laptops takes minutes and not very hard at all.

The Touch will only use as much usage depending on what you use it for. Like Stu said, just over your network you will use nothing at all. If you use it to d/l music or whatever it can do (which I'm not sure of), then yes it will take some usage but I can't ever imagine that would be a lot. Just look at the Sansa Connect.
