2007-09-13 01:00:00 | I&apos ; m running Windows XP. My daughter has a Barbie(TM) Rapunzel CD game. When we run Launch.exe it won&apos ; t run in a Window. Instead, it changes my screen to 640 X 480 and my &apos ; taskbar&apos ; disappears. It takes over my whole screen and monitor settings. There are two applications (exe&apos ; s) that are associated with the game: Launch.exe and rapunzel.exe. I can&apos ; t find anything useful in the Properties for either application to make it run in it&apos ; s own Window and keep it from taking over my settings. Although, if I run rapunzel.exe, it doesn&apos ; t change my settings. It does warn me that 640 X 480 is advisable for best viewing. This must be the main application and launch.exe is an enviroment app of some sorts. As for the launch.exe application, there is a Launch.ini file and I found this amongst the text: ----------------------------------------> ; ; Only changes it for main ap not setup! ; VideoMode=640,480,256 VideoMode=640,480,65536 ; Issues warning if video mode can&apos ; t be matched. VideoWarn=65536 ; VideoWarn=256 ----------------------------------------> ; I believe that I can change the &apos ; VideoMode=&apos ; settings to run the game in a higher resolution and if I only run the main application &apos ; rapunzel.exe&apos ; it does run in higher resolution ; it warns me that 640 X 480 is better though. How can I force this game to run in a Window and not take over the whole screen? Thank you for your help!

2007-09-13 01:28:00 | with older dos apps you could if you created a shortcut to the app right clik the shortcut and goto properties and there you could modify things like window size etc.....you could try that....... | drcspy (146) | |
2007-09-13 01:47:00 | I have gone into the properties of the applications and shortcuts that I also created for the apps and chose normal window, maximized and minimized; the results are always the same: the game opens without a window and it takes over the screen. I also tried to choose different 'compatability' settings and it didn't make a differance.

2007-09-13 05:15:00 | My daughter has a Barbie(TM) Rapunzel CD game . When we run Launch . exe it won't run in a Window . Instead, it changes my screen to 640 X 480 and my 'taskbar' disappears . [I]; Only changes it for main ap not setup! ;VideoMode=640,480,256 VideoMode=640,480,65536 How can I force this game to run in a Window and not take over the whole screen? Why would you want to? Its normal for a game to run full screen . Its going to use more resources trying to force it to run in a window, because then it has to try and display all your desktop stuff as well . What specs is your PC? And as its your daughters game, does she need to be messing about ion WIndows while playing a game? Sounds dangerous to me . . . . .

2007-09-13 07:26:00 | Make a limited user account for your girl to use to play her games. I presume the issue is it changes your desktop to match the games requirements?, and not just that the game looks ugly in its default display setting?

2007-09-13 13:11:00 | I need to think of this as a specific project and not settle for finding weak compromises or resigning myself to the current situation. The bottom line is: it doesn't matter why I want to run it in a Window. Does anyone know how I can force this program to run in a Window using Windows XP? -- without creating a seperate account for her, which would then make the playing of her game truely inconvient for when we need to jump onto the PC for a sec or more. And, she has trouble switching (Alt-Tab) between her OTHER Barbie game which she always wants going at the same time. Oh, by the way, does it help that SONIC does the same thing? Although it doesn't change the Screen Preferances thank god.
