590061 2007-09-11 00:20:00 Canon Pixma IP4200.

The PGBK light keeps flashing.

Have carried out the nozzle cleaning functions light and deep without success.

Yes it's a new Canon cartridge, could be a "dud" I suppose.

Thanks for any other clues.

Or incompatible if its a "compatible" type.
I've had that before.....not faulty, it just didn't like that particular sort....

590063 2007-09-11 01:36:00 The newer Canon printers have chipped carts, AFAIK there are no "compatibles".
Have you tried reinserting the cart? The printer may not be making contact with the chip.

Not compatible, wifey's girlfriend had been told to buy the Genuine Canon cartridges for her printer of the same make. That was Noel Leeming advice, so the ladies are sticking together.

Have told her to return the ink or buy a new one and see if the other is faulty.

Will let you know the outcome.

590065 2007-09-11 19:59:00 NP-C-0005BK 24ml new Black Compatible Ink Cartridge, $6.99 incl GST

OK?

Now, of the various "compatible" cartridges, I have found sometimes a particular type doesn't work.

My own printer needed:
NH-04836C 28ml new Cyan Compatible Cartridge, compatible for HP C4836AN.
$19.99 incl GST

Which worked just fine.
However:

28ml new Magenta Compatible Cartridge, compatible for HP C4837AN.

Did not, I got the same error. I got a replacement twice.
Then I gave up and bought C4837A No 11 Compatible Magenta Cartridge ZHPC4837A from another shop.
Printer is now happy.

My brother has always owned Canon, he buys compatible too, the chip is irrelevant, they compatible ones have them too. He just got a new Canon last week.

Interesting, I'm surprised that things have moved on so fast.

I was relying on info from a US forum for inkjets where the latest news only a few months ago was that some refillers finally had the ability to reset used Canon carts to show full after they'd been refilled but they couldn't change serial numbers so the cart had to be swapped so your printer didn't see the same one twice.

I bought one of the last printers using the previous cart to avoid that hassle.

Yes but these aren't a refill. Its just a whole new cartridge, just not an official Canon one.
They work just fine, as I said, you may have an issue with certian brands of them, if brand is the right word, but you sure don't need to use an official one.
Thats just a way for them to make more money.

590068 2007-09-12 10:06:00 Thanks for all the replies.

Wifey bought a new genuine Canon cartridge and the light has stopped.

So the hardly used one must be a "DUD", unfortunately she paid cash for it, yes I know "plastic" has been around for a long time.

She will try Canon in the city tomorrow.

I expect you have tried reseating the cartridge. That was all I had to do yesterday when I had the same problem; just take it out and put it right back in.:)

590070 2007-09-13 02:52:00 Vince, I wouldn't mind a $1.00 for the number of times we did that.

New cartridge installed and now working ok.

Will try and get something done regarding the almost new cartridge.
