591521 2007-09-16 02:02:00 Comodo would be better than XP's firewall.

BUT, it can be tricky to configure and can also block sites like the Windowsupdate site (thats if u ever go here).

Comodo USED to be on these, but caused too many probs. And it was worse, when it was installed on 2 computers (like it was here).

Even tho, I added what was needed to it, since the other PC had Comodo on it as well, that would usually block ports too. Until I added whatever to it.

I've also noticed that Comodo CAN block your ADSL connection (from the ethernet port to the modem/router). Thats if you're on broadband.

In the end, I uninstalled Comodo 2.xxx, since it was causing too many problems. And went back to XP's firewall.

I've been using XP's firewall for about 3 weeks, with no probs..

I'll wait for version 3 to come out, to see if its better (and not so tight with the ports, and easier to configure).

Just as long as u dont go to any dodgy sites and get dodgy files, or use P2P programs, XP's firewall is fne.

XP's firewall will block incoming traffic, BUT if you get something ike a trojan, it wont stop outgoing traffic.

591523 2007-09-16 04:06:00 Funny, I've never ever had any of the problems that you have Speedy. Maybe you're just a bit too adventurous:lol: beeswax34 (63)

Could be coz I'm on dialup I dont know, but it sounds like its not a good idea having it on 2 computers. I only installed it on both since both can dialup.

BUT in the forum some people did say to uninstall it then reinstall it, i did that 3-4 times still blocked the WU site.

The other prob is, even if u uninstall Comodo, it leaves its leagacy entries in the registry. Which I had to delete, to get the WU site to work properly.

591525 2007-09-16 04:37:00 I use:
Firewall:Zone Alarm Free Edition
Anti-Viruis:AVG 7.5 Free

Other Free stuff I also have:

AVG Anti-Spywear
AvG Anti-Rootkit
Ad-Aware 2007
Spybot Search And Destroy
A-Squared Free
Bazooka Scanner
SpywareBlaster
SuperAntispyware Free Edition

And TaskPatrol Personal so I know what is running on my pc and how much ram/cpu it is using, very good and user friendly and nice and graphical as well, also free.

All of these are free and I have no problems but I only serf the internet at safe places too as well so that helps as well plus I use Mozilla Firefox version 2.0.0.6 and keep it and windows XP Pro up to date and I have my Internet Security on High and my Privacy to block all cookies.

And I finish it all of with CCleaner also free.

591526 2007-09-16 06:00:00 I had Comodo installed for some time but I got a little peeved when it kept asking me for permission for XXX to access the Internet and I would duly give the permission and also tick the box that says remember the answer. Unfortunately the answer was not remembered and so I had to give permission for trusted applications several times a week.

I have been using Avast antivirus and Windows XP Pro x64 firewall for the last two months on broadband.

No problems so far.

591527 2007-09-16 21:46:00 Just remember that the Windows firewall does not block any outgoing connections. If you get/have some nasties on your PC, they'll happily have access to the net.
Zone Alarm free, although completely crap compared to it's pro version, would be better than the XP firewall.

True, but then if you use P2P programs / sites like Limewire, Bittorent and go to dodgy sites etc, you've got a higher chance of getting trojans etc, if you're only using XP's firewall too .

I've tried ZA, (this kept shutting off its proxy service)
NIS long ago (this did the same thing as ZA)
Comodo (this kept on blocking the WU site),
Trendmicro IS (kept disconnecting me after 30 mins for some reason) .

Never tried Outpost
Tried Stop and Go (smaller than most firewalls, but wasnt that easy to configure)

Not much else to choose from!

591529 2007-09-17 08:24:00 I really think you should stick to Comodo Speedy. Maybe 4/5th time lucky??? beeswax34 (63)
