And thats a really good cheap upgrade IF it will be able to do what you want. For internet, homework, movie watching you don't need the latest and greatest pc just out,its only graphics intense and cpu and ram intense stuff that you keep on the upgrade path for. Example:for playing the latest and greatest games. The games industry drives the components industry along they work hand in hand without the high end pc games there would not be much growth in the components industry. Nvidia and Ati sponsers the games industry a huge amount especially Nvidia they have the "Works Best On Nvidia" splash screens on a lot of modern games to promote themselves. (Most of the pc components industry is in on the games industry after all its what keeps them alive.) Scenario: Graphics Industry goes to Game Developer's Industry we need to sell more graphic cards make some more graphic intense games, and heres some "start up funds for it" or it will be "Nvidia/Ati closely working together with the Game Developer to get the best out of the game". So then the hype goes out about this new great game, wright ups in the gamers magazines,on the gamers websites telling you its such a great game it works on these specs for a computer......,but we recommend these specs....., to get the best enjoyment/to work better on your computer. And they get the game and get hooked on it "Oh its such a great game but I know it would work better on a computer with what they recommend or even if I spent more on better things it would be so cool then"!!! Mission accomplished the cycle is complete and both industry's are happy and rich!!! And the upgrade cycle keeps rolling on. I am a long time gamer I know how it all works, but like a person that smokes/drinks/gambles..... I GAME!!:D (I don't smoke, hardly drink and don't gamble.):) |

| 591506 | 2007-09-17 01:01:00 | Nice and easy upgrade anyone can do is to get 2 x 1024mb= (2 gb,) sticks of ram and that will make a big difference to your computer, and keep it running real smooth and help out your apps./program's as well. (So you can have 2 gigs in dual channel). Nice and cheap ram brands I have used is Adata,Legend and Kingstone all work fine for me. (You do not need to get dual channel sticks of ram,-(waste of money)-any two sticks of the same amount will do ie. 2 x 1024mb ddr 400.)Keeping to the same brand is good and advisable, but I have had a Legend stick of ram 1024mb ddr400 working fine with a Adata 1024mb ddr400 stick of ram). All you do is turn the computer off, make sure the ram is facing the right way look at the notch at the bottom of the ram and marry it up with the notch in the memory slots and open the white clips up and then push it in and the white clips close holding your ram in,done! Or get a shop to do it,takes less then 10 seconds to do,take it in your lunch break,or whatever.Make sure they do it for free as some charge for it,and if your buying the ram from them, well they can put it in for you as well for customer satisfaction!!(And repeat business from you as well.) |

Appreciate all your comments guys . . . . thanks . AB Try this and see where you currently stand with a benchmark test . It's part of aida32 ( . com/downloadget . php?id=181&file=14&evp=e292483f0de3e518ff57fb57cf6eb944" target="_blank">majorgeeks . com) and it will tell you much more than you ever needed to know about your system . . . so in-depth that it's scary . Use the benchmark tests at the end of the tree (on the left column) and see what ya got . |

| 591508 | 2007-09-17 04:03:00 | seems like your question has been well and truly answered apart from one thing, the OS. If you have an OEM version of windows it technically belongs with the hardware and is not transferable. In practice if you tell MS that the old one failed and had to be replaced they probably will let you re-activate on new hardware, but it's not Guaranteed. In any case you would have to re-install windows, it is in some cases possible to switch hardware without doing this but almost never without problems and usually results in a system that won't boot. |

| 591509 | 2007-09-17 07:23:00 | The only time when upgrading your hardware that you have to deal with the OS is when you replace the motherboard or harddrive . In fact if you are upgrading the harddrive for a bigger one and or faster one then all you have to do is clone/copy the old one onto the new one . So no worries with doing a harddrive upgrade, just if you swap one motherboard out for a new one . As for Microsoft I have used the same OEM XP Pro disk on all my upgrades without any problems for years now,as long as it is on one computer only and you don't do it to often your sweet as . I just say it got a virus or something and it wont work so I had to put windows back on,and the call operator from India says oh ok then and all is good and you just carry on sweet as . And it really is easy to do so don't let people make it out to be something scary or hard to do when its not . I think some people who do this for a living may talk it up,but then they would to protect their jobs as everybody would just upgrade their computers themselfs and not need a computer builder, its that easy . :D |
