592556 2007-09-19 03:46:00 A friend bought a Acer Aspire 5104 from DSE. The system came with Windows Vista, however a number of applications and peripherals they use were incompatible. So I'm helping him down grade to Windows XP.

Only one issue remaining - I can not find drivers for the modem (I think is a "CXT" - conenxent ??) which will work. I have tried the different drivers available off the acer support site - but not one is reconguised, so I continue to get the error "modem device on high definition audio bus" in hard devise.

Contacting Acer support wasn't much use as they pointed me to the drivers I had tried, and couldn't shed any more light.

Any help would be much appreciated to get the right drivers or if someone can confirm that they have a 5104 with XP running fine ( with internal modem working).

Thanks

592557 2007-09-19 04:08:00 You can try this page Here (www.conexant.com) Its the main download page for Conexant modem Drivers.

Also did you try This Driver (www.acerpanam.com) From Acers Site ?

The files in the Aspire 5100 folder.

592562 2007-09-19 09:31:00 Thanks for the suggestions, finally got it sorted.
Uninstalled the modem in the device list and retried the drivers off the acer support site again (and a generic conexant driver off the page suggested), but this time uninstalled modem and rebooted each time before trying another driver set. Then finally one of the Acer driver sets worked, suspect the uninstall of the modem each time helped.

Just for the record downgraded by installing XP from CD and ensuring it reformatted the drive before installing. Also 5104 does use the 5100 drivers.

This downgrade has had multiple benefits, not only have we got the old scanner , printer working and three incompatible apps working. we have also got a faster machine, 4 minute boot time under Vista is now a 1.5 minute boot time. Jezzzz .... I thought new OS were supposed to be faster.

Cheers all - thanks again.

Depends on the Spec's of the PC as well as whats starting up. If you have the system hogs like Nortons, start up time will be slower. Most Vista PC's I build have start up times from 45 Seconds to 1 minute.

Good you got it going
