| 591858 | 2007-09-17 02:36:00 | Looking to run a WAMP server on a spare PC, a quick wiki shows there are a lot of options. Can anyone recommend an easy and simple package? Cheers |

Tho, try LAMP. Its much more configurable :)Indeed, although it can be harder than a WAMP solution for those who aren't used to working with Linux :D. |

Yeah just some local development, and wanted to have a play with Drupal. Think ill start with XAMPP and see how that goes. Was considering a LAMP setup but the PC I'm going to use also does double duty as my file server and I cant get the RAID controller to work under linux, maybe one day I'll get round to fixing it. |

| 591865 | 2007-09-17 11:24:00 | Bletch whats is Uniform Server like? It's excellent, but lacks extensions (pear etc) although I think the devs were doing so work towards supplying them as plugins. If all you want is a basic, solid WAMP setup with no funny business then I'd highly recommend it. The packages are also usually very up to date. Last time I looked it took up about 7MB of space. If you need fancy features then I'd recommend XAMMP, or maybe even try rolling your own. Even better, go with LAMP :D. |
