592656 2007-11-12 03:16:00 please see the link I added above, CPU is not on the list. May need a BIOS update.

No thermal shutdown is normally a jumper as you can't get into the bios if you can't boot :) - I think this is a red herring though sorry.

Don't think I've ever seen a mobo where thermal shutdown was controlled by a jumper, but I've seen it a million times in the BIOS

Damn! It supports an Athlon 64 3000+ then jumps to the Athlon 64 3500+ but doesn't support the Athlon 64 3200+! What's up with that? I thought I had a compatible CPU but obviously misread something originally! So now who feels like an egg  .

I will pick up an Athlon 64 X2 4000+ and see if that makes any difference!!

If it does anyone after an Athlon 64 3000+ AM2 CPU with heatsink and fan? Only very slightly used and going cheap!!!:p

592658 2007-11-12 03:37:00 Take it back and ask them to flash the BIOS.

With a lower CPU then chuck yours in.

592659 2007-11-12 04:00:00 I built a PC using this mobo, running the 3500+, no problems .

Funny the 3200 is not on the list, I guess it will be supported in future BIOS revisions, though looking at that list, the highest BIOS given mention is the 405 BIOS, nothing about the 406 BETA and 406 official, which under notes say support new CPU . .

perhaps if you get the shop to flash to 406 official it will work?

592660 2007-11-12 04:25:00 Thanks all .

I have ordered the Athlon 64 X2 4000+ and will chuck that in and give it a whirl . I just gotta learn to read better .

Of course if I get the same result with this CPU you will all be able to hear me scream and will know there are going to be various pieces of hardware going cheap

Fingers crossed!

592661 2007-11-14 02:52:00 Well the new CPU arrived today.

Threw it together and whaddyaknow - fired up perfectly!

I feel like a bit of a muppet and my thanks go out to dugimodo for instilling a new found importance for me to keep away from speed reading lists of CPU compatibility.

Lesson learned the hard way!

Thanks again to all who helped out on this problem!

PS - Now have an Athlon 64 3200+ (very slightly used) and a heatsink and fan going for cheap if anyone knows somebody keen!
