592391 2007-09-21 02:54:00 Further to my comment a couple of postings back, Ulead VS10 definitely will accept and edit mpeg files, if you mean the sort of mpeg files you would burn to a DVD, such as mpeg2. rumpty (2863)
592392 2007-09-21 03:52:00 I have never used this program but have heard good reports:

Maybe this will help you.

592393 2007-09-21 05:04:00 Not really what I would call a satisfactory solution when wanting to edit video.

What on earth are you talking about? An mpg file IS a video file.

592394 2007-09-21 05:35:00 I feel I need to re-confirm my objective. The issue is not burning DVD’s per se: but rather as stated in Sweep’s message (#15) in the paragraph beginning “It appears to me…..” Mike S (1766)
592395 2007-09-21 05:47:00 Yer like I said Nerovision edits and burns. Speedy Gonzales (78)

I know but from my interpretation you could only hear the sound but not see the footage...correct?

592397 2007-09-21 07:14:00 Only if you dont have the codecs, as for the fella in trouble try a download site, like download.com etc, most have a good variety of converters as well mm progs. rob_on_guitar (4196)

Yea, but after it gets written as a wmv file, it can then be opened and edited perfectly.

592399 2007-09-22 03:36:00 If you buy a firewire card off trademe for about $20 they chuck in a full version of Ulead video studio SE. It's a very good editing program for beginners to learn and has a lot of features.

You may not need a firewire card but it's just an option to getting a cheap copy of UVS.

Cheers.

592400 2007-09-22 04:32:00 Hi Mike,

Movie Maker is an odd application - in theory it should work with any video that can be played back in Media Player... in practice this is far from the case however there are solutions.

First up, the software supplied with your camera is actually pretty good for basic cutting and management. You should reinstall it to get the Handycam utility working which will let you quickly import video into Motion Browser when you put the camera into it's docking station and hit the 'DVD burn' button.
Your imported video (and photos) will appear by date (provided the date is set correctly). If you're seeing photos but not videos check the 'film' icon is clicked in the top right of the Motion Browser window (and/or check Motion Browser has your video folder 'registered' [file menu] so it looks there for your recordings).

If you do want to use Windows Movie Maker 2, the codec which seems to work most reliably on a range of systems is Stinky's (www.softpedia.com) however sometimes audio can still cause issues (the Sony software codec hopefully will take care of it...). Ironically, MPEG2 video worked much better with WMM version 1!

Personally I'd highly recommend Vegas for your editing. It's easy to use and any of the versions will support your camera (the platinum version supports Dolby Digital 5.1 surround and the latest High Definition cameras)

Hope this helps!
