592574 2007-09-19 09:52:00 I suggest you try using Ethereal packet sniffer to look at the traffic on the LAN - should tell you the IP number you want?? johnd (85)
592575 2007-09-19 10:18:00 I think I found your problem. You said you typed in routerlogin.com

Just looked at the manual, the address they say is http://www.routerlogin.net

The routers address is also 192.168.0.1 try rescanning with those IP's

Cheers, but ive already tried these things. I think that when the router is setup as an access point, routerlogin.com or .net (ive used .com before) simply redirects to the WWW.

Here's a screenshot of Ethereal (jerms.orcon.net.nz). I turned off the netgear, setup a capture then restarted the netgear.

592577 2007-09-19 10:43:00 So isn't that suggesting that the WAP is 10.1.1.1? johnd (85)

The Dlink is the DHCP server with the IP of 10.1.1.1

592579 2007-09-19 10:56:00 What if you try tracert? johnd (85)
592580 2007-09-19 11:03:00 What if you try tracert?

traces directly to the IP i want to trace.
Be it 10.1.1.5 or 10.1.1.1. There is no in-between IP

Um, I could be wrong here, but shouldn't the dlink say what devices/computers are connected to it along with the IP address it has assigned that device/computer? (eg, in your case, the netgear)

592582 2007-09-19 11:05:00 The Dlink is the DHCP server with the IP of 10 . 1 . 1 . 1
If you go by that with 10 . 1 . 1 . 1 being the Dlink, theres only two others . 4 and . 250

Try doing a ipconfig from the laptops command prompt .

I'm guessing it will come back as 10 . 1 . 1 . 4 meaning as long as no other PC's are turn on, . 250 should be the Access point .

To test that turn off the access point and see which one disappears . - work it in reverse, not what is there, but what isn't . Or is that scan from the laptop ? If it is scan from a direct connection, not wireless .

592583 2007-09-19 11:29:00 I tried 10.1.1.250 numerous times and this timed out but it seems to have worked once which is great. Im curious why it didnt appear in Angry IP or ethereal. jermsie (6820)
