If you are moving to ADSL, and purchasing a modem/router; ensure it is ADSL2+ compatible. Most ISPs will be moving this way once unbundling has happened (unbundling = Telecom opening up all exchanges and allowing opposition to install their own equipment, basically).
Brands to look at: Dynalink, Belkin, 3Com, Netgear, Linksys.
Brands to avoid: D-Link (given out by some ISP's).
I'm not too sure about Billion brand, might have to ask around.

Some ISP's (unsure about Xnet) will offer you a free modem, or will subsidise a modem/router. What you require is a modem/router

592116 2007-09-19 20:29:00 Are the US Robotics ADSL Routers as good as the old dialup modems they made? Agent_24 (57)
592117 2007-09-19 21:41:00 Its real easy just buy a wireless router on trademe. I bought a dlink dsl-g604t for 40 buckerunis. Get one with some cable ports on it. The reason is wireless can be slower its not hard to drill some holes in the floor and directly cable them up. 25 metre cat6 cable at dse is 25 big ones
Dont call a broadband router a modem it dosent modulate.

Get a Linksys, you definitely won't regret it.
