591950 2007-09-17 06:40:00 We are trying to run an Interbase based application inside a VM with Win2K Server .

The physical Win2K server was cloned using VMware Converter . The physical Win2K server was then unplugged before the VM of this started up on another PC . The Win2K server inside the VM has the same fixed IP as the physical server and all the workstations can connect to the mapped drive inside this VM fine .

The application hosted on the Win2K server inside the VM also started up ok from the workstations, but the problem surfaced when we try to log into the database . It came up with a network error . . . my question is . . . Does anyone know if Interbase caches the Mac address of the original server?

We have rebooted the router and the ADSL modem, from experience the VPN application used on this site does cache the IP/Mac combo . However rebooting both did not help in this case, may be we need to reboot the PC the VM is running on? If Interbase does cache the Mac/IP combo, are there any utilities that can reset that, or may be some registry settings?

591951 2007-09-17 07:29:00 I remember a friend restoring an InterBase backup on a totally different machine. It went perfectly fine. All it asked was the user and password codes. So it does not sound like a mac/ip address issue. vinref (6194)

Anything changed on the workstations?

I haven't had anything to do with VMs but can the host OS's firewall block stuff from happening in the VM?
I just did a transfer of an interbase database for a client to a new server.
I had to allow the ibserver.exe file in the Firewall on the server before the workstations could log in to the database.
