591936 2007-09-17 05:01:00 I have just purchased a Samsung MP3 player (as yet unpacked). Would have preferred an ipod but wanted an built in FM tuner. I understood from the salesperson that I probably couldn't download my iTunes music directly to the MP3 but would have to transfer it to Windows Media Player first. Could someone with experience of this brand advise me whether I do have to transfer to another media player, and if so which one would be best (I also have the latest version of Real Player), and any helpful hints or will everything I need to know be on the installation cd. I just know that getting this up and running is going to fry my brain. My computer has windowsXP SP2.
Thanks

591937 2007-09-17 05:07:00 Give it a try with a couple of songs. Considering they are MP3 files which are universal. The only thing you probably won't be able to do is to transfer any music you have purchased from the music store to your Samsung MP3 player. The Samsung may not show up in iTunes which may mean that you have to transfer the music files from their folder in iTunes onto your MP3 player as opposed to automatically synching them with iTunes.

Both iTunes and Winamp are free anyway so you can't loose.

591938 2007-09-17 05:09:00 Or try Winamp,it supports some MP3 players now.

Plug it in run Winamp see what it does.

That could well be worth a try since Cover Flow in iTunes is pretty cool :) here www.imagef1.net.nz

591941 2007-09-17 09:09:00 thank for suggestions everyone . The new MP3 is still charging so will revisit everything tomorrow with a fresh brain. Being able to download all the music I have purchased from iTunes to the Samsung was a condition of purchase so I can take it back if it doesn't work. WINMACGUY you wrote that "the Samsung may not show up in iTunes". Can you explain that a bit more, thanks. bellbird (6169)

You will only be able to download the DRM free music from the iTunes Music Store directly onto your Samsung MP3 player which means only selected artists so far from the DRM free section of the music store. The rest of the music you purchase from the store would have to be burned to CD to remove the DRM which is designed to only play on iPods being that Apple owns/created both the iPod/iTunes/iTunes Music Store.

I have only ever used an iPod with iTunes so I am not sure what happens when you plug another MP3 player in as to whether it shows up in iTunes.

iTunes won't reconise another sort of mp3 player, and that was why I posted a link in my previous post.

591944 2007-09-18 10:25:00 thanks for help everyone. I took the Samsung back - the FM receiver wasn't very good anyway. Also, when I installed the CD I then couldn't access Windows MediaPlayer because McAfee popped up with Buffer Overload warning (whatever that is). This sorted itself out when I uninstalled the Samsung CD. I bought a little Sony Walkman and will prob get an iPod later for downloading the music I've purchased from iTunes etc. bellbird (6169)

If your after an iPod Touch like WolfForrest, apparently they won't be in the country till the end of the month. What will you do with 2 portable media players?
