594117 2007-09-23 03:54:00 My asus burner came with Nero 7 and I've been quite hapily burning a few dvd's. However it now says that I need to buy the DVD multichannel plug in for mpeg-2 video encoding as my 30 day trial version is up. Is this right ? I thought if it came bundled with the burner it was a free version. Or is it only free to burn CD'S and you have to pay to continue to burn DVD's. Anyone know ? Clod (7853)
594118 2007-09-23 04:19:00 I didnt know it came with it (the plugin).

Unless you paid for it or had a serial for it.

But I know that plugin (and other plugins), aren't usually part of the package or free.

Otherwise, the plugins you pay for, wouldn't be on the Nero site.

Nero / Nerovision SHOULD be free, if its the OEM version.

Cant say I've ever had an OEM version run out on me.

594119 2007-09-23 04:54:00 Depends on which version of Nero you have, remember OEM doesn't always mean you're getting the full package. I bought an Asus DVD/RW a few months back and it came with Nero Express, which doesn't have all the applications you would get with say like Nero 7 Ultra Edition.

I recall that when Nero 6 came out I was asked after 30 day to purchase the DVD plugin even though I had an OEM copy of Nero 6.

Personally, if I was you I would upgrade to the full Nero Package... 7 Ultra or even 8 which has been released recently. It is money well worth spent.

Cheers

594120 2007-09-23 04:55:00 I'm thinking that may be its the format of the videos perhaps. They might need to be converted to what nero likes. Any free video convertor programmes out there ? Clod (7853)
594121 2007-09-23 05:06:00 Yup, it could be, coz its an OEM version

It shouldnt be because of the format .

Nerovision loads (and burns) most video formats .

It's only because a plugin is needed for the DVD option (and some other options) .

So they appear (so you can select the option) in Nerovision .

I think the release date for Nero 8 is 1st October.
Just checked the web site.

594123 2007-09-23 10:15:00 True!!! I just saw the ad on the Nero site, I thought it was available already... I'm thinking about buying that.... very impressed with 7 Ultra edition. chiefnz (545)
594124 2007-09-23 12:58:00 Sounds like they are only asking you pay for the Dolby Digital/DTR Surround sound plugin (for the dvd player part of Nero (Nerovision?)), which you dont normally get with Nero; maybe they are putting it in as a come-on to buy the plug-in or the full version of Nero.
You'll still have Nero, and Nerovision in stereo only, if you dont fork out I would think.

594125 2007-09-23 21:56:00 Nero 8 has been "released" on the web... and it's huuuge!! 950+MB installer. 1.5GB disk space required (I assume for all packages).

Since I only use the burner, i'll stick with v6.x :)

594126 2007-09-24 01:46:00 Well I payed for and downloaded the latest nero 7 last night and it still wont transcode the videos something about mpeg-2 video encoding still. Have sent an email to their support team. Really strange that it worked fine before. The files that I'm trying to put on dvd are the same type as before. Even video files with nero wont burn for the same reason. Bugger.:badpc:  Clod (7853)
