| 594090 | 2007-09-23 00:08:00 | Got a problem with a customers PC, has any one had this happen before - They had Norton 360 installed and it was giving no end of trouble with blocking all internet traffic even though it was set to allow (not unheard of:rolleyes: ) Any way - I removed Norton 360 from ad/remove programs, rebooted and then ran the Norton Removal tools. Internet came back right away- Then proceeded to clean out teh PC using Ccleaner, Speedys links - spyware removal tools, Installed nod32 - removed a couple of minor spyware ( cookies) but nothing. - All windows updates, ran sfc /scannow - repaired several files. Ran Dial A Fix (www.softpedia.com) and the thing fear flew - turned of system restore to kill any points - running good as gold. Turned back on restore. Untill the next day - it reverted right back to where it was - no Internet and Blo***Y Norton 360 had returned:badpc:. Run the system restore from where I had made a point just prior to leaving and working and all was well. Rerun Norton removal tool ( Again) went into the reg after rebooting, manually searched for "norton, Nortons, Symantec, 360 - took out several keys. Rerun removal tool. Turned off system restore. Run Hijackthis - all clear of Nortons -All's well  . Turned on restore and no restore points there (as expected) made new point - all OK for two days. You guessed it Norton 360 had returned - GRRRRRRR. The customer has not reinstalled it, as he doesn't have the product key, and every time if you look at the install date it was months ago.I don't really want to have to reinstall the whole OS but I may have to. The only thing I can think of is Norton 360 has an auto back up ( from their site) Discovers new files and backs up that data automatically Automatically back up important files to a secure online service I wonder if its auto reinstalling the program ? If it is I think thats Disgusting! |

| 594093 | 2007-09-23 00:47:00 | lol, I've been reading one site, where 4 different people installed 360, one was an IT consultant, who swore by Norton SW. Well that ended soon after one of his customers, installed it and it kept on coming up with: system32/hal.dll is missing or corrupt - please reinstall - to the 4 of them. So, if u cant uninstall it, it'll make you reinstall Windows, whether you like it or not anyway  |

Runs perfectly all day , you can reboot as many times as you want - then even after removing all restore points, removing from reg, every where I can think of. Then next day it"ssssssssss backkkkk! - I think its a bit like that old song - The Cat Came Back (www.metacafe.com) In this cause its "Nortons Came Back"  You gotta see the funny side of it :waughh: |

| 594096 | 2007-09-23 01:51:00 | Did you try what it says here (service1.symantec.com) Did they backup any files? Yep downloaded the tool twice, once from the workshop, and once at the customers house. Deleted the install file that he downloaded that was on the desktop, and there is no backups of it. When its running right - if you do a reg search or Whole PC search its nowhere to be found. Its almost as if its auto reinstalling from some other place when it starts up the next day. It's really strange. |

PJ :badpc:  Nooooooooooo The person is male - hope he bats for the right team if you know what I mean:rolleyes:  Mind you the Mr's gives me a hard time saying I get all these woman ringing me - I go to their places and come home with money Hmmmm  Enough of that!! - BEHAVE!!! wratterus - What I have done is turned off system restore completely - rebooted, that should clear any restores - then rerun the Norton removal tool - That brings back the internet to a working state. Reboot and alls well.Turn on restore still OK - No restore points are visable. make a new one in the working state - then leave. Over night nortons returns. run restore back to the point I made the day before - all well again. - Nortons removed. BUT when nortons returns its almost as if the old restore was run, as Nod and other icons are missing - Its Bl****Y Crazy. Reinstall I expect on Monday - I'm expecting a phone call in the morning. |
