593981 2007-10-13 08:30:00 I've found Paragon Backup to be perfect with every machine I've tried it on, no chipset problems, no drive problems, and it makes recovery partitions too.

Stuff Acronis and their total disinterest in the trouble I had with it.

593982 2007-10-13 20:42:00 Wainuitech, did you end up buying this program?
Not yet, While I have had a play with it, so Far I have not had the time to see if it has any advantages over the versions I already have.

I don't use it for backing up as I already have 2 others, Windows Home Server does full system Backups of all networked PC's daily, and Handy Backup (http://www.handybackup.com/) does important work stuff daily that I can't afford to lose to another PC being used as a file server.

593983 2007-10-13 22:05:00 I use Sync Toys for my PC back up which is quick and easy.
I have Norton Go Back 4 for when I stuff up on something, but was wanting something to do a complete HD image for if I really screw up! pctek's option of Paragon also looks good. I just need a little more guidance before I pay my money!

593984 2007-10-13 22:29:00 There may be no Need to purchase the program from Paragon if thats what you want.

Go to the Magazine / Computer shops and Purchase the October issue of Australian PC USER - it has the latest copy of Paragon 8.5 Special Edition on the Magazine DVD for free - the mag its self is about $8.95

Personally I still Use Acronis, never had any of the problems others have mentioned. In fact yesterday I thought I may since I was working with An Asus Board - SATA 2 HD / SATA Optical Drive - Imaged back perfectly - So I Dunno ?

Hmmm- Just ordered a ASUS P5K SE currently out of stock - but worth playing with when it arrives. I'm in need of a replacement Workshop PC. I'll post back once the board arrives and see what happens.

593987 2007-10-14 05:05:00 I see Norton Ghost 12 is now out. Anyone used it? Any thoughts? Grimy (3041)
593988 2007-10-14 05:17:00 I use Acronis 10 but never had to use it to put everything on the hard drive back. As an older dabbler I am a bit nervous about the prospect of testing that some sunny day. In the meantime my external hard drive where I store the images in two different partitions (ie one for one week then the next week use the other), has enough room for me to do a test by re-instating from one partition to the other. Would that be a viable option ?

593989 2007-10-14 05:21:00 Hi Misty. Yes I also use an external HD to do weekly back-ups. But I just like trying new stuff - even if I'm never going to really use it. You never know, one day it might be useful!
I guess I'm getting close to being an older dabbler myself!

Are you able to give me a reply re my query, Grimy, re doing a test from one partition to the other on the external drive. :dogeye:
