2007-09-22 08:34:00 | I will back up what has been said before . ACER are determined to make all their systems perform like crap . Don't ask me why, but it is true . There is absolutely no reason why your machine, with Vista, shouldn't perform very well . You just have to uninstall all the ACER sabotage programs, including Nortons, and stop a whole lot of others from starting up at boot time . This will at least give your machine a chance . To repeat, Vista isn't your problem .

2007-09-22 20:22:00 | Theyre just as bad as HP. The laptop I fixed a few weeks ago, installed NIS 2006 from the restore CD's I created. The sub was only for 2 weeks! Couldnt they spare it, it wasn't worth the space. So, I uninstalled that and something to do with Sonic, (burning programs or something). Since most of the Sonic programs crashed. And this was from the restore CD. And I dont know why Lightscribe was on the restore CD. The burner doesnt even support it.

2007-09-22 20:32:00 | Before you go blaming Vista for you poor experience i would definitely try and kill all the pre-installed Acer crap. My Dell laptop ran like a dog until i did a clean install with my own XP disc using the Dell cd key. Pete, I uninstalled all of the Acer 'crap' and on the first reboot was confronted with a memory dump, followed by a STOP error. Using last good configuration got me out of the hole, but one wonders why it happened in the first place. So far I have now been unable to use the built in camera called Acer Orbicam. Acer E recovery management no longer works, which is understandable, however I cannot find a workaround to make backups. God knows what else I will find over the coming days. Looks like a reinstall of all the 'Crap' will fix the problems I now have. Your suggestion to remove the Acer 'Crap' was not helpful !

However see my reply to Peter O'neils post a few minuites earlier to this one and you might understand now where the real problem lies . |

2007-09-22 21:41:00 | I take it Vista has a System Restore? Try that to recover the system. It is obvious some of the Acer software is still required for your laptops functionality, but there may be parts of it that are unnecessary. Make a list of what programs it includes and perhaps we can work out what parts can be safely uninstalled (if you do not wish to use those parts). If the machine is performing that badly, then consider returning it under the warranty to be looked at. Demonstrate what the problem is in the shop.

2007-09-23 03:18:00 | I'd be checking it for viruses spyware etc if I were you. My 5100 with 1GB of ram preformed fine with vista and all the acer crap, although I have since removed the acer stuff and it does go better. You can get XP drivers but not 2000. From the programs menu you will find "Acer eRecovery Management" if you open this at the bottom of the window is a button called "Burn Disc" click this and select "Create Factory Default Disk" then you can reinstall Vista at anytime if you do get rid of it.
