593090 2007-09-20 07:58:00 [QUOTE=Speedy Gonzales;594678]And WHERE did you update the drivers from? Microsoft Windows Update.

Why it needed updated SATA drivers, I dont know. Is the hdd a SATA hdd??
Ahh, stuffed if I know, but it is a Toshiba MK1234GSX Scsi Disk device, think it is a 120Gig jobbie.

If the system was running fine, the SATA drivers didnt need updating.
Well, for my education, is the HDD describe above a SATA ? I don't think U understand, I did not update the driver, Microsoft Windows Update did and now it wants to do it again - but I backed out of there <grin>

Hey, but thanks for the assistance.

593091 2007-09-20 08:30:00 I got the same model laptop here with vista, that update from microsoft also caused problems when i downloaded it a couple of months ago its simply a faulty update on there part. stormdragon (6013)
593092 2007-09-20 08:37:00 Yup, it's SATA alright. The SCSI reference the system applies to it indicates this.

God knows why we need to have a whole new bunch of problems with what has been long-heralded as, and now is, the HDD connection protocol. But we do.

593094 2007-09-20 20:49:00 1GB ram and yeah it performs just fine. Played games like battlefield 2 on it previously to see how it would go and it has no problems on moderate settings. stormdragon (6013)

593096 2007-09-21 21:54:00 Have you tried booting into Safe Mode and then uninstalling any drivers you have for the ATI 4379 Serial ATA Controller? If you can then re-install the ATi version of the driver NOT the MS version.

Cheers

For those who had constructive comments, thanks for your input.

Chiefnz gets the bonus points, as his solution proved to be the 100% one.

Similar overseas sites to this one would say "Stay away from file ATI4379 serial ATA controller for Vista" Seems that not all Vista laptop's have a problem with the file, but this one sure did.

Problem solved.
