594031 2007-09-22 11:30:00 Start > Run > type in msconfig > Startup Tab > uncheck everything that you do not need to startup on bootup.

Hope this helps.

594033 2007-09-22 20:24:00 And when you install anything, always choose advanced or custom. The defaults often have a habit of automaticaly putting the program in startup. pctek (84)

If you right-click on the icon in the systray see if you can access the options/configuration setting. Often there will be an option in that to not start up the application when the computer starts.

Failing that, use msconfig as suggested. However there are certain programs that must be left to always start when the computer starts eg antivirus and your firewall.

You can look up the other items using this reference (www.sysinfo.org). Just enter in the name of the item in the search box to find out what it is and whether it is needed.

Once you have done this and restarted your computer, you will see a dialog box open stating the computer is running in diagnostic startup (or similar words). Just put a check mark into the "don't show me this message again" and click OK.

If you have the program Spybot Search & Destroy, this also offers you a tool to edit the startup list under the Advanced Mode.

594035 2007-09-22 21:26:00 And ccleaner. Under tools / startup.

This will also let u delete startup entries permanently.

Just make sure you dont delete something, that needs / is required to run on startup, to work

Yes, Speed . . that's why using Spybot is a good idea, it has a "Toggle" on/off setting that doesn't remove, but turns off the possible offender to see if it's necessary or not .

That way, one can go back and "Un-toggle" it back into existence again .

No harm; no foul .

The best advice yet .

That is the correct way to stop programs loading on startup and should be used before any other method . Mistakes are minimised and you know exactly what programs you are disabling .

Anything that is left can be disabled by the other methods but will need to be researched to ensure you aren't turning off something that is required .

One other place to check is in your Startup folder in Start Menu's Programs list . Almost anything in there can be moved out into another Start Menu folder or deleted if you are sure you won't be needing it again .
