593927 2007-09-22 04:30:00 How can I uninstall win xp using dos?.Xp was installed over top of 98se and maybe that is still there. nzace (6057)
593928 2007-09-22 04:36:00 You cant since XP doesnt have true DOS only the command prompt.

Do a clean install (put the XP cd in) and format then reinstall.

You can remove XP if 98 was there first depending on how XP was installed. Its in Add/remove programs. - but it may be more trouble than its worth.Heres How (support.microsoft.com) But I wouldn't advice it.

Take speedys advice and reinstall what ever OS you want from fresh - either 98 or XP. After saving any data you may have to another location

593930 2007-09-22 05:23:00 I have got all the data out of the puter that I want. puter wont let me reinstall because my copy of xp is older than the one on there.I seem to be stuck well and truly nzace (6057)
593931 2007-09-22 05:29:00 Change the boot disk to the cd in the BIOS and save settings, and boot from it.

Dont reinstall XP from within Windows.

WHERE did u put what u want?? If its on the hdd it'll get deleted when you format it.

If its not on another partition.

If the data you're talking about are programs that were already installed, you'll have to reinstall them again, and the updates after.

If it does and the version you have wont install then you need to reformat the drive .

593934 2007-09-22 05:54:00 Hi Yes I am.Cant get in through windows but start in safe mode with cmd prompt I then type c:\windows\explorer.exe. which lets me into windows.I then clicked my commputer and d/clicked cd drive which bought up xp disk but when I tried to install it said no can do because c.d. version is older than what already on here. like I say "stuck!" nzace (6057)
593935 2007-09-22 05:59:00 You dont boot into windows.

PUT the XP cd in the CD/DVD, reboot go into the BIOS and change the bootdisk to the cd. And save the settings. Then reboot.

Hopefully, the cd is bootable, if it is when it says press a key when you reboot, press a key, and follow what it says.

BUT then if this is from the other post, have you got another key or something?

If you dont, it'll expire again.

593936 2007-09-22 06:38:00 I thought the cd was bootable but when I tried it in the other puter it would not boot,so I think I should have tried this right at the start. Sorry for all the inconveniance I have caused. nzace (6057)
