594879 2007-09-25 09:07:00 I am running windows xp professional. I have a problem with my desktop shortcuts to websites. When I double click the shortcut, I get an error message that windows can not open the website. It tells me to check the spelling etc. However the website does open properly. The error message is just a nuisance really as the sites do open. I do not have the problem when I click the links in Bookmarks in Firefox.
Anyone know what the problem may be?:illogical

594880 2007-09-25 10:03:00 Wonder if some update has done this as it sounds like the same problem this (pressf1.co.nz) person had. Jen (38)
594881 2007-09-25 10:14:00 The other PC here, had a similar prob.

It didnt say to check the spelling tho.

Instead of opening the site/link, or the above error, it opened its properties.

When I double clicked on the URL link.

Why I dont know.

It didnt happen on this PC tho.

I had to reset everything in IE 7, which seemed to fix it.

It hasnt happened again since.

594882 2007-09-25 10:40:00 Yeah, the other person had to completely re-install his firefox for the links to start working again. beeswax34 (63)
594883 2007-09-25 21:25:00 The only things that I could think of was that I had installed Limewire just before the problem started. Also I have Uniblue Registry Booster 2, which I had recently used to clean my registry.
I Restored the most recent Registry Repairs, rebooted and the problem was still there. So I uninstalled Limewire and the problem was still there. I ran Registry Booster again which found several errors, as it usually does, and fixed/removed them. Now there is no more problem. Still none the wiser what it was that caused the problem though. Obviously a registry error but why wouldn't Registry Booster 2 fix it with Limewire installed?
Thanks anyway for all the comments. Cheers.

Some of them, can make things worse. Or make a system unusable.

I had the same problem and fixed it by completely removing Firefox and reinstalling it. Make sure you remove Profiles and anything connected with Firefox. This may fix your problem also. Good luck.
