594650 2007-09-25 04:05:00 :help: I have got 3 Icons appearing on my desktop when Windows starts up. They are named Error Cleaner, Privacy Protector and Spyware Protection. They are all Internet Shorcuts and when I open IE it keeps opening a page related to the icons. I am also having problems as the computer keeps opening IE and loading pages. I have hard deleted the 3 icons but when I restart Windows they reappear. If I change me homepage in IE it just reverts back to the Spyware site and tells me to download as my computer is at risk. I have run the most up to date Spybot Search and Destroy but this does not fix the problem. Ran a Virus check with Avast and still no luck. Can some one please help.:help: adzam06 (12855)
594651 2007-09-25 04:14:00 Welcome to PressF1.

You have whats commonly known as the 'Smitfraud' Virus (or spyware, to be more correct).

Download this (www.malwarebytes.org) and this (www.simplysup.com).

Update them and scan. If that doesn't remove it, download this (siri.geekstogo.com), and run it in safe mode.

Post back once you've run those programs through, theres a few other things to do to make sure it doesn't come back.

594654 2007-09-26 02:27:00 Hi again and all great now. The progs cleared it up first go and all running sweet. Thanks again:thumbs: adzam06 (12855)
594655 2007-09-26 02:56:00 Sweet as. It's also a good idea to clear out the system resore cache. Disable system restore, reboot then re-enable it. That will sort out any nasties that may be hiding in there.

Also delete the temporary internet files. An effective way of doing this, and clearing out any other temp files on your PC is to download this (www.stevengould.org) program and run it through.
