594609 2007-09-25 02:54:00 Sounds like you are well out of your depth. It is good to gain experience, but if you are not making progress (or are going backwards) maybe it is time to take it to an expert.

No doubt plenty of people here can recommend one.

Cheers

594610 2007-09-25 02:56:00 Sounds like its overheating, or you forgot to connect something like the ATX 12v connector to the mobo Speedy Gonzales (78)
594611 2007-09-25 03:02:00 Does it start to load Windows or does it hang on the post screen? As Speedy has suggested it could be overheating, so double check you've installed the HSF correctly and the fan is spinning freely when the PC is turned on. If in doubt remount the hsf, check the Arctic Silver website for a good guide. Pete O'Neil (6584)
594612 2007-09-25 03:16:00 i did have a hard time installing the heatsink, but all the fans are running good. im gonna ask my neighbor to have a look at it at it or to test the parts at work, but it gets to the bios but turns off before i can save changes deathracer (11825)
594613 2007-09-25 03:31:00 It's almost definitely overheating. You are on the verge of damaging something. It sounds like the heatsink is not correctly installed.

I'm a fan of DIYing it, but Billy is right. Find a nice PC tech, and get them to do it for you. Where do you live?

Edit: Don't turn it on again until you've fixed it. Every time you do, it's getting to the emergency shutdown temperature, probably 80 degrees, and turning off. 80 degrees is bad enough - getting there in a few seconds has got to be even worse.

594614 2007-09-25 22:24:00 If it's the first time you installed a HSF, yeah, it will be tricky. That does not mean you did it wrong - if you followed the instructions that came with the motherboard or CPU, it should be on properly.

BUT, that does not mean you DID do it right.

Could be overheating/something not plugged in/PSU not good enough (Just because 580 watts sounds a lot doesn't mean anything - is it a hyena?)

I would be inclined to check these and other things but until we know it's not overheating, turning it on is not a good idea at this point.

594616 2007-09-28 08:20:00 Well if it works fine you probably didn't do any damage... Agent_24 (57)
