No. It would be in some situations but not if you just want to upgrade your music collection to CDs.

Here's how. You need a tape player with line out or earphones out. You then need to buy an appropriate cord to go from the line out (2x RCA) or earphone (3.5mm or 9mm stereo jack) of the stereo to your computer's Line In port (3.5mm stereo jack).

Then you need to find some recording software. Search Google for something free that can record audio. Sound Recorder won't do.

If we all Googled everything we would not need forums. If a person asks for some help on a forum they are asking for help from the forum members.

The idea is that you should be able to get a few suggestions of software/procedures that work well. Not thousands of mentions on Google !

594474 2007-09-24 21:44:00 Yes it is possible as I have done it many times.
I used my Hi Fi Tape Deck which has line out on it. Connected that to my PC via my sound card. You well also need a cable with 2 RCA sockets on one and a 3.5mm jack on the other to plug into your sound card. The cable catalogue number from DSE is C1240.

594475 2007-09-24 21:48:00 This has been asked here before try pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

Also As far as I know NZ still doesn't have a fair use Law like the US and other countries and it's always been Illegal to duplicate copyrighted music here in any way, whether you own a copy or not.
