594270 2007-09-23 10:53:00 Hi All
PC connected to Telstra cable. Zone alarm, AVG, recent spyware scans all negative but continuous Networking activity seen in Windows Task Manager. No XP updates downloading. Around 0.1% of 100Mbps ethernet with 2Mbps broadband, ie. quite a lot of bandwidth, especially if computer left on for most of the day! Has been going on for some time now. Any ideas as to what is going on? Is there a zombie? Any downloads to tract this activity?
Many thanks
bba

Haven't got any torrent programs running have you?

If you go to Telstras site and log into the usage meter, it tells you there all uploading and downloading traffic, Might give some clue. If your account is an older Paradise like mine you can get the IP address of any uploads or downloads, have not tried with a New Telstra account though.

594272 2007-09-23 11:05:00 got any other computers on the network that might be sharing files/printing etc?

try netmeter or something like that and check how much data is being transferred (task manager might be having a spaz)

594273 2007-09-23 11:10:00 No torrents. Will have a look at the Telstra site. Will try netmeter or similar. No networked computers. Many thanks bba12 (1139)
594274 2007-09-23 11:15:00 You can get the bandwidth meter from my sig and see if that helps as well. beeswax34 (63)
594275 2007-09-23 11:37:00 maybe block all traffic and then unblock only what you want (not an ideal solution, but effective) motorbyclist (188)
594276 2007-09-23 21:47:00 TelstraClear runs on the equivalent of a very large LAN, and unless you can see your upload/download meters changing (indicating that you have a problem), then the traffic that you are seeing are ARP broadcasts.

I've had a program watch it before, and it was something like 500 mb per day - it's basically traffic going past your cable modem.
