594160 2007-09-23 05:01:00 I am using a Linksys SPA2102 and have a Uniden cordless connected to it.

It works fine except:
It will not ring on incoming calls.

It does if plugged directly into the landline.

Trying other, including corded, phones in it gave the same result.

Xnet guy suggested using a 4 wire cable from the phone to the Linksys.
That made no difference either.

I suspect its a tweak they need to make at their end???
Any ideas?

594161 2007-09-23 06:01:00 Did you try the Self Help in the Technical support section on Linksys Site.???

Heres what they say -

To set the Incoming Call Alert, Ring Tone, and Ringer Volume to enable, follow the steps below:

Step 1:
Press and hold the Power/End call key to view the home screen. Press menu and scroll to Settings then press Select.

Step 2:
Scroll to Tones then press Select to enter the Tone menu.

Step 3:
Enable Incoming Call Alert, Ring Tone, and Ring Volume. After changing each setting, press the navigation to save the setting.

Step 4:
Press and hold the Power/End call to go back to the home screen.

Just looking at their answer, it looks more to do with the phone though than the SPA2102, which it appears not to be as it rings normally.

Can I assume you also looked at the user guide on page 53?
Manual Download if you dont have it (www.linksys.com) Select version first. Manuals appear.

What key?
Its a little box with 2 phone ports, and 2 ethernet ports.
It has no keys, buttons or anything else.

I had to enter an IP in it so it could go off and download its profile, no other chnages are made to it.
I spent 6 hours with the Xnet guy doing stuff. This is still the only problem left.

Thats why I think it has to be their end.

"Just looking at their answer, it looks more to do with the phone though than the SPA2102, which it appears not to be as it rings normally."

Meaning Linskys must be talking about another type of phone, skype maybe - not the same as yours.

I think its something to do with Linskys SPA2102 - if you think about it, you said the phone works when plugged directly into the Landline - add in the Linskys VOIP and problems.

What s changed ? The Linskys SPA2102

I assume its been setup as per instructions in chapter 5 or 6 in the manual. Either Interactive Voice Response Menu or web based, and you are getting a dial tone.

Heres what the manual says about the phone not working:

Common Problems and Solutions
1. I don’t hear a dial tone, and the PHONE LED is not lit.
Go through this checklist until your problem is solved:
Make sure the telephone is plugged into the PHONE port.
Disconnect and re-connect the RJ-11 telephone cable between the Phone Adapter and telephone.
Make sure your telephone is set to its tone setting (not pulse).
Make sure your network has an active Internet connection. Try to access the Internet. If you do not have
a connection, power off your network devices, including the Phone Adapter and cable/DSL modem. Wait
30 seconds, and power on the cable/DSL modem first. Then power on the Phone Adapter and other
network devices.
Verify your account information and confirm that the phone line is registered with your ITSP.

.

Ah no. Plugging it into the landline means it is now using normal phone services.
Not VOIP.

If the Linksys had a problem the phone would not work at all, and it does. I can call out fine, I can answer incoming calls - by having another phone in the landline to get a ring.

But this defeats the purpose - which is to not use a landline at all soon.

594165 2007-09-23 09:06:00 Hi PCtek - my internet is up and down so any replies may look a bit "after the Fact" so tospeak - sorry about that.

After reading your reply saying the phone is working, I was having a read through the manual and saw something.

You may have checked this - Look at the settings and under the Voice Tab/speed dial & Supplementary Service Settings - make sure DND - Do Not Disturb is NOT set to Yes. The deault is NO.

If its yes - it may be killing the ring - Just a thought.

594166 2007-09-23 09:31:00 Nope, its as it should be........
Oh well, never mind, I'll see what Xnet say tomorrow. Its rather annoying is all...........I searched through Geekzone too but zilch there either........

594167 2007-09-23 09:42:00 I had the same problem and it was the cable I was using between the VOIP box and the phone. Are you using the cable provided with the SPA2102, and is it plugged straight into the phone (not with any adapters in between)?

I have no idea how a cable can work for voice and not for ringing, but that's how it was for me.

If you pick up the phone while it's "ringing" (but not ringing) can you answer the call?

594168 2007-09-23 09:59:00 Hi

Have you checked your VFX web portal ? Just in case something like Do not disturb (under incoming calls) is switched on.
Also under utilites check that intercept user is switched off.

594169 2007-09-23 23:00:00 The cable provided was 2 wire. I changed it to 4 wire. Made no difference.

There is some fault on this line, it has noise. Xnet have decided this may be causing the no ring business also.
This morning on opening day it is complete rubbish. Pings timing out, phone hanging up etc.

Waiting for a telecoms guy to come and check the lines, its not inside the premises, its out somewhere along the chain.

I'm still a bit dubious this is related to the ring problem though.
